I was discussing this with DD (11) and DS (9) at the weekend.

I was surprised by DS's answer. Apparently the coolest boys name ever is....

Geoff Grin

I remember when I was at school, cools girls names were Kiera and Nikki (I'm 32).

Ilovegummibears · 14/01/2016 08:57

Surely it is not the name but the character and personality that makes someone cool! And by association a cool person's name becomes cool.

If Geoff is 'cool', then his friends will associate him and his name as cool.

OublietteBravo · 14/01/2016 19:22

I'm fairly sure he doesn't know anyone called Geoff though.

My son has a very unusual name but wishes he was called Steve.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/01/2016 17:16

One of the kids at school mentioned Geoff in a story yesterday, maybe it's in a TV show at the moment?
My teenage daughter likes Ray for a boy!
It must be that 'two generations back' thing happening.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/01/2016 17:21

Dd thinks the coolest girl's name is Katrina.

FighterPilotsThumbs · 15/01/2016 17:24

Just asked DD(7) and she said Mark and Laura Confused Grin

CorneliousFudge · 15/01/2016 17:26

My DS (4) has told me Vincent is "the best name", no idea who he knows called Vincent, maybe he's been watching Eastenders without my knowledge!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/01/2016 17:41

Also Lexie, and Bob and Josh for boys...

grumpysquash · 15/01/2016 17:46

I think there is a YouTuber called Geoff (or Jeff). My DS2 (age 9) goes on about it. I'll ask him when I get home.

Purplecan4 · 15/01/2016 17:56

Zak

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 15/01/2016 17:58

Louis Confused. Pronounced the French way. And for a girl....Rusty Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/01/2016 17:59

My DS aged 19 wishes he had been called Jack, which he was right up to the last minute. He doesn't think his name had he been a girl is cool at all-Olivia.

BastardGoDarkly · 15/01/2016 18:00

Steve! DS (8) has a very cool name, but nooooo, he wants to be called Steve Hmm

Lebkuchenlover · 15/01/2016 21:31

But Steve is actually cool for our kids' generation - it's very rare and underused. Our generation has too many though... I know so many 35+ year old Steves....!

OublietteBravo · 15/01/2016 22:19

Ah grumpy - that could explain it. I've been trying to figure out if he knows anyone called Geoff and drawn a complete blank (closest I can get is someone DH used to work with about 7 years ago, which doesn't seem likely).

dd has just suggested Patricia. Apparently being called "Patty' would be great

Hmm
captainproton · 16/01/2016 04:52

We have a popular 1970s girls name in mind for our unborn dd. Ran the name past DSS 15, and he thinks it very cool. I know my contemporaries would not feel the same and we were totally unprepared for DSS enthusiasm!

Handsupbabyhandsup · 16/01/2016 05:24

My DD aged 6 asked why I hadn't named her something pretty like Jalanz or Mistic (pronounced Mystique) lol!

Lyttelma · 16/01/2016 06:03

Muriel.
According to DD (6). She's also keen on Gertrude. Confused

PositivePete · 16/01/2016 07:18

Geoff - that's just made my day Grin

wonderpants · 16/01/2016 07:37

All the year 6's here keep saying 'my name is Jeff' is a silly voice. It is definitely a thing! don't really want to know

Bambooshoots14 · 16/01/2016 07:51

knowyourmeme.com/memes/my-name-is-jeff

Google says it is a thing and it's from 22 jump street

tilder · 16/01/2016 07:52

Steve is probably minecraft. Plus YouTube has a lot to answer for.

SummerMonths · 16/01/2016 10:33

My nine year old also said "Geoff"!! But she's been obsessed with "Myname us Geoff" for months.

For a girl she said Judy!
