Love it!

fluffiphlox · 07/01/2016 17:54

Isn't it spelled Lorelei?

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 07/01/2016 17:55

Ooo, I'm watching Gilmore Girls now.

If you like it, go for it.

:)

Snoopadoop · 07/01/2016 17:56

I'm pretty sure its Loralei or is it Lorelei? I picture a lifetime of spelling it for everyone.

soundsystem · 07/01/2016 17:56

I love it!

Creatureofthenight · 07/01/2016 18:02

I like, am a Gilmore Girls fan though!
The spelling OP has used is the spelling they use on the show, I think.

Branleuse · 07/01/2016 18:04

its spelled Lorelei isnt it?

R0nJ0n · 07/01/2016 18:08

Love it. Lorelei nn Rory if you're a Gilmore Girls fan, otherwise Lori works as a great nn.

musicinspring1 · 07/01/2016 18:09

I am a massive GG fan but not keen on this name. I considered Rory for DD but with Aurora as the 'full name' instead and Rory as the nn. DH wasn't so keen!

scribblegirl · 07/01/2016 18:11

The myth of the lorelei on the Rhine isn't the best, but I think it's a lovely name and if you don't care about the myth then go for it!

MagicFinger · 07/01/2016 19:19

Ah, so pleased it's liked!

What are the different ways of pronouncing it?

MagicFinger · 07/01/2016 20:18

Lora-lee or Lora-lye?

lljkk · 07/01/2016 20:26

Lore-uh-LYE is the one in my family, spelled Lorelei. I think the other spellings are fine, but I'd go for Laura myself instead.

lljkk · 07/01/2016 20:26

oh no... I got the wrong, the emphasis is in middle in my family.
Lore-UH-lye.

Reminds me the 7 different ways to say Helena.

SmashleyHop · 08/01/2016 22:12

I have a Lorelai. Lore-uh-lye. We always get complimented on her name. It is weird though.. In my life I never met another Lorelai. After we had our DD I seem to find them everywhere.

Case in point- We went to a random little family farm in the middle of no where Wales. Only 2 other families were there at the same time we were. DD runs off so I call after her. A grandmother of one of the families there approached me and asked if she heard me right, that DD was Lorelai. I said yes.
She laughed and said her name was Lorelai, her adult daughter who was there was a Lorelai, and one of her granddaughters there was a Lorelai. So there in the middle of a random farm in rural Wales were four Lorelai's. Smile

I don't really like it, sorry. It sounds a bit ponderous. I thought it was pronounced Lo-RAY-li at first, and think you'd have to tell people how to pronounce/spell it quite often.

HeffalumpTrap · 08/01/2016 22:20

Not my cup of tea, but if you like it use it

Rowboat · 08/01/2016 22:24

The Lorelei lure sailors to their doom. It's also, I think, plural. Don't really like it as a name because of this connection. and I can completely imagine my mother's response

HanSolo · 08/01/2016 22:33

There is a wonderful, wonderful book named 'Lorelei's Secret'. It's about a dog that can talk (well, kind of)

CockwombleJeff · 08/01/2016 23:09

Sounds like a Thai bride (sorry op) .

Noodle1234 · 10/01/2016 09:40

Lorelei is lovely. The ei spelling is traditional but the ai spelling has been popularised by GG. Both variations are legitimate.

Is the German legend any more tragic than the stories associated with other names (esp Greek or from Shakespeare)? And it's a lot easier to spell than most Irish names. Even seemingly straight forward names like Catherine have umpteen spelling variations, and names like Evelyn can be pronounced a gazillion ways. I don't think any of these concerns should be reason enough not to choose a name. I say go for it!

Rosaaa · 10/01/2016 14:05

I like it Smile

scribblegirl · 10/01/2016 15:03

Good point Noodle, I like Ophelia so I can hardly talk! Wink
