Andromeda is a plague disease isn't it? At least is was in the film. Nasty alien plague that wipes out humanity if I remember correctly.

MistressMerryWeather · 04/01/2016 21:52

She was a mythical princess first Hedgehog. :o

Alien plague robbed her.

doitanyways · 04/01/2016 21:54

Ophelia and Persephone are well known enough, I would have thought. I like Ophelia.

Titania sounds too much like 'titanic' :)

People insisting children don't get teased for their names - well, yes, and no.

I have a very unusual name which I've grown to like. However, it does single me out to the point where I almost don't need a surname, everyone mistakes it for another similar name and it has been frequently met with outrage that I am not called Clare or Rebecca like every other girl born between 1980 and 1985.

It is interesting that I know someone's level of education on how they react to my name. Not necessarily in a sense of how many degrees they have but in a sense of exposure to the world.

It does mark you out as different, which can be uncomfortable. And I got absolutely crucified for my name at school.

ashesandfire · 04/01/2016 21:57

I like the sounds in Persephone but would never be brave enough to use it. That's a big name to pull off. I feel exactly the same way about Seraphina!
Titania and Ophelia - nickname problems.
Would any of these work
Miranda
Rosalind
Cressida
Emilia
Olivia
Viola
Juliet
Imogen
Helena
Octavia
Katherina
Juno

Knew it! Delusions of grandeur. Can spot them a mile off.
I have a very good friend from SW London (Barnes). Father from aristocratic family. she has always said. The more outlandish the name the more 'trying to hard'. Keep it classic and tasteful she has always said. And that is coming from someone who is proper posh. You did ask OP so you do have to expect some differing of opinions whether you like them or not.

FlatOnTheHill · 04/01/2016 22:01

Ashesandfire
Lovely choices. Very tasteful.

MistressMerryWeather · 04/01/2016 22:03

Well even posh people can be arse holes.

Or I could just enjoy my days poncing around the estate I live on in my 23 year old banger and have a bit of faith in humanity in the future

23 year old banger?! That's clearly vintage daahling.

You big try hard. Wink :o

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 04/01/2016 22:19

Are you in the family way then sock? ( just being nosy!)

FlatOnTheHill · 04/01/2016 22:27

Effiesmum
I like your DD's name its very nice and best out of OP's bunch.
Can I ask. Why would you choose a 'nick' name. Why do some people give their children nick names when they can easily use their proper names. Your DDs name is not long and complicated so why use a nick name for your child.
Im truly interested as I know a couple of people that do this. I though a nick name is what your friend might give you at school not your parents. Smile

ifnotnow indeed I am, but shusss it's a secret. feeling incredibly positive about it as I now have a Doc with a huge amount of experance with HG so hopefully I will not be attempting to vomit my own esophagus this time round.

mistress I liberated it from my grandmothers garden shed where the chickens had taken up residence. I quite like it, hugely ugly thing but sturdy

FlatOnTheHill · 04/01/2016 22:30

OP that would be interesting. Hope the banger is an E-Type Wink

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 04/01/2016 22:31

Oooh! Exciting! Congrats Smile

FlatOnTheHill · 04/01/2016 22:33

Oh good luck with this pregnancy Sock.

I had HG with DS1, and would not wish it upon my worst enemy.

When I got pregnant with DS2 I was convinced I would get it again but thankfully I barely even had morning sickness so have hope!

I did stock up on ginger biscuits the second time round though, not because they work but to throw at anyone who suggested I try them.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 04/01/2016 22:49

I've had it with all of mine mistress but after a perticularly nasty bout of it on my last attempt that resulted in TOP due to severity I'm not taking any chances, ever since then I have had a care plan waiting to be activated on first hint of exorcist style puke (already activated) on the off chance,it involves lots of injections in my arse and steroids

MistressMerryWeather · 04/01/2016 23:00

I'm so sorry to hear about last time. Flowers

It sounds like you will be well looked after by people who know what they are doing.

That's brilliant.

3luckystars · 04/01/2016 23:36

How do you pronounce Persephone then? I am saying "Percy phone" when I read it here.

JasperDamerel · 04/01/2016 23:38

Per SEFF uh nee.

KatOnATinRo0f · 05/01/2016 00:37

I just asked DH (Greek) and apparently it's per-seph-OH-ne. But English seems to pronounce most greek words wrong. I thought per-SEPH-oh-me too. Don't even see this Percy phone business?

JasperDamerel · 05/01/2016 07:47

It's like penny-loap for Penelope, which is what I thought it was for ages, even though Penelope was my sister's middle name.

Cattington · 05/01/2016 11:27

Persephone is my favourite and Andromeda my least favourite. I've always had a thing about Antigone (nn Tiggy) too. But that's not on your list.

BertrandRussell · 05/01/2016 11:38

Only 600 Johns born last year. It's a really unusual name!
