Am I overthinking this?????

We've just decided on a boys name (thanks to you lovely ladies).

When I googled the first name and our surname (don't ask me why I did this), the first thing that came up was a man by the same name charged with murder in America! I'm probably being ridiculous and hormonal but would this be a reason to choose another name? Thanks for your help :) x

Unless it's a huge famous case I doubt anyone will care.

If you are in the UK, I don't think it would make a jot of difference unless it was a very high profile case (e.g. would you be calling your son OJ Simpson?)
Are you also planning a middle name? That could be different.

I wouldn't go for Harold Shipman for example, but if it's a name that no-one will remember/know about, I wouldn't worry at all.

I wouldn't change it. Most names have been used by lots of other people, some good some bad. Plus It's a US case so unlikely to be known here

If you google DS name there is a news paper report of someone with the same name as ds who had murdered his uncle (who has the same name as our nephew) and his girlfriend has the feminine version of dh name.

Also when you google images the majority of photos are of a well known actress with a drug problem. Her christian name is different but her characters name was the same. We used to get drug dealers calling us when she lived locally wanting to talk to her.

I say go with it unless it is a really well known murderer that is associated with that name

I Googled all my potential names for this very reason! It would bother me but if it's not in the UK and not high profile it needn't matter. Even if high profile they'll probably be forgotten - my DP didn't understand a joke on TV about Saint West being lucky Kardashian/West didn't choose Fred as his first name(!)

I'm 23 weeks now. Have just googled the name I've chosen if it turns out to be a girl. Turns out it's a spanking website!

You'll have no control over any unsavoury sorts with the same name cropping up after you've named your wee one! I know a Katie Price.

My DS has the first name of a very high profile murder victim. I worried about it a bit - but I think it's a beautiful name and she now eclipses any reference. No one else has ever mentioned it. The victim was beautiful and loved too so I don't feel bad about it. not Madeline btw .

Awww thank you ladies!! Great advice! Very low profile cases from what I can gather so think I'll stick with the name! Excellent point knitella, we have no control over what others with the same name do after the baby is born! Really appreciate all your help :) x
