Just for fun really, if you've ever come across your DC's name. I come across DS's frequuently on here but DD I did a name search for when she was first born (and quickly regretted!)

Mine:
A bit blah

DS:
A dog name/ a surname

DD:
Seventies american cheerleader/ council estate/ horrific

Haha hacker same! I'm reading the opinions and mentally saying the name!

OP posts:
Mince314 · 21/12/2015 23:30

Very popular

She was the only one in her primary school and the only one in her secondary school (she thinks)

Mince314 · 21/12/2015 23:32

and my son's name? it is suggested occasionally and receives mixed reviews and a poster once responded with three lines of "no no no no no no" I laughed! I thought wow. I'd no idea it was a marmite name! I liked it all over again for being marmite.

Mrsfrumble · 21/12/2015 23:52

I've just remembered that DS's name was once described on here as drippy and "sounding as if he would struggle to grow facial hair". Funnily enough every adult I know personally who shares his name has a beard!

tilder · 22/12/2015 00:10

Dd1 is viewed as modern and will date. Bit American (Shock).
Ds1 is classic but common/popular. Almost every thread says it's a strong classic name that doesn't date (but too popular ).
Dd2 also classic or boring (delete as appropriate ).

drspouse · 22/12/2015 00:43

DC1 "kooky", but also "classic", a "long name I wouldn't want to shorten" (we don't!), and "uncommon". A very large number of people really like it but haven't used it (or aren't owning up to it) and most suggest a nickname which we don't use (it's a family name and nobody in the family uses that particular nickname, either)

DC2 "plain", "professional", "will not make a comeback", "important". Pretty much nobody owns up to using it (but there were less than 100 born last year in the UK so it's not that likely there would be many on here!)

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 22/12/2015 09:26

Ds -school trouble maker or shy/quiet kid

Dd- American try-hard, could be a boy name too.

Me. Not usually mentioned.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/12/2015 15:05

Dd's is well reveived on here.

Mine - dated/common sounding. Everyone seems to know one they dislike. (It probably is a bit dated but I've only met two others in 27 years so I wouldn't say it's particularly common).

Dh's - dated, would be weird to hear on a little boy now (totally true!)

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/12/2015 15:05

*received even

diddl · 22/12/2015 18:44

Me-awful name that should never be revived.

Son-try hard.

Daughter-chavvy.

Montsti · 22/12/2015 18:57

DS - 😴😴😴. Millions around. They'll be 5 in his class...terribly dull parents with no imagination...I LOVE his name and he's never had another in his class...to date...

DD1 - divided 50/50... Some say classic and others say boring, lots around etc..etc...see above😂.

DD2 - generally fairly well-received. Possibly seen as a bit "posh"...

FunkyPeacock · 22/12/2015 19:03

DD - generally agreed on MN to be a classic but some might view it as a bit safe and unimaginative

DS - usually gets the thumbs up on MN, but a friend IRL did tell me that the combination of his nn and our surname sounds like a Catherine Cookson drunk!

AuntieStella · 22/12/2015 19:07

DC1: awful and difficult to live with, you must be joking.

DC2: nice, safe, classic

DC3: common/chavvy

insan1tyscartching · 22/12/2015 19:08

Ds1 not common,a strong name
Ds2 boring/ what about a longer version on the birth certificate?
Dd1 it's a nickname, what about the longer full name on the birth certificate?
Ds3 top ten, will be loads with the same name
Dd2 very common, will be lots with the same name (only one other in her Primary spelled differently)

marmiteontoast76 · 22/12/2015 19:18

Dd's name gets a bashing on here for being far too popular, will be 5 in a class, this generation's Sarah, unimaginative, too nicknamey. Turns out she's the only one in her school of 320 children.

Ds's name gets a 50/50 split. Common, stodgey, boring, old man's name. But many others say classic, solid and great.

My name is liked on here for being classic and international.

TheOptimisticPessimist · 22/12/2015 19:42

No DCs but I have a 'nice but a bit wishy washy' name that is spoiled by a (slightly) younique/American spelling when the classic one soooooo much nicer Hmm (not bitter at all grin])

DPs is a classic name with a foreign spelling (his parents are from Eastern Europe) so his is much more acceptable than mine!

PeaceLoveAndMincePies · 22/12/2015 21:29

Both mine and DS' names are deemed "filler middle names" Confused

Wafflenose · 22/12/2015 21:42

Mine is generally well liked on here, despite the fact it's not in the top 1000 and I have only met two others in my whole life.

DD1 - lots of people think we should have put a 'full version' on the birth certificate. I disagree - we don't like any of the names it's derived from, would never use them... and her name is hardly unusual! It's a short, standalone name, and is strong and to the point. Just like she is.

DD2 - some people on her think it's chavtastic. It really isn't... it's beautiful and is on the rise (although it was falling slightly in popularity when we used it). Last year there were three in her school. Now there are two, as one has moved up to secondary.

swansolistice · 22/12/2015 21:43

Mine is middle class in an arty, slightly bohemian way and seems generally liked but no one uses it!

The names I want for my future children are liked but one shares a brand name with something. It bothers Mumsnet but doesn't bother me!

Lancelottie · 22/12/2015 21:51

Too long
Too short
Boring and too long.

cantgonofurther · 22/12/2015 21:57

ds -a name from a country we have no connection too which doesn't seem to go down well on here.
dd -too popular

MNetter15 · 23/12/2015 11:33

Dd1 plain
Dd2 common (popular common, not the other type 😐)
DS - I asked for opinions here when I was pregnant with him and mostly positive responses; strong, classic, traditional but the negatives were boring, old fashioned etc...

MazzleDazzle · 23/12/2015 12:50

DD1 - beautiful, classic, elegant.

DD2 - beautiful BUT everyone will comment on the Twilight connection (no one ever has) and there will probably be at least two other girls in her class with with same name (none in the whole school).

I reckon MNers who claim that there's 3 girls in their kid's class with the same name are lying!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/12/2015 12:51

DD1 - beautiful and classic
DD2 - common (it is but it's popular for a reason)
DD1 middle name - as above re dd2
DD2 middle name - twee

BornToFolk · 23/12/2015 12:54

Me - Typical 70s name, everyone had at least one in their class at school

DS - classic/boring/overused/posh. Typical MN name. Grin
