Just for fun really, if you've ever come across your DC's name. I come across DS's frequuently on here but DD I did a name search for when she was first born (and quickly regretted!)

Mine:
A bit blah

DS:
A dog name/ a surname

DD:
Seventies american cheerleader/ council estate/ horrific

Both names are unusual enough not to be mentioned very often so I searched;

DS1 - not liked as the name can be shortened to a girls name.

DS2 - found the following quote which made me laugh 'conceived in a Pimms Tent at the regatta presumably'

Kitla · 18/12/2015 04:29

Dd1's name mostly gets approval. When it comes up on threads, it's commonly described as being beautiful, lovely and pretty. Although I have also seen it described as both posh, pretentious and chavvy. Not quite sure how that works - guess it makes it a middle sort of name then Smile.

DD2s name is a classic, although often people don't like the letter it starts with. She has a nickname, which most people like too, but they do recommend her full name on the birth certificate. Dd2s most definitely has mn approval, although some people do consider it a little boring.

Mrsfrumble · 18/12/2015 04:40

DS's - booooring! Quirkier alternative (with the same inevitable shortened version) always suggested.

DD's - mixed. Comes up fairly often, sometimes derided for having recently risen in popularity. Once described as sounding "like some drab old washerwoman" too, which was nice.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 18/12/2015 04:56

DD's, elegant/well posh/pretentious. DS's unusual/creative and probably a bit pretentious too.
This is based on having just searched them both.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 18/12/2015 05:19

I've never seen DS's name mentioned on MN.

Crazybaglady · 18/12/2015 08:23

LineyReborn You got DD's middle name correct... Her first name is the Kardashian that starred in the home movie! (I imagine Kardashian association is the ultimate no no too!!!)

I love all these anders! Such a mixed bag of reviews! I should add that even though DS is a dog name, it is regularly suggested!

Ds1 - just inside the top 50, used to be seen as quite posh

Ds2 - quite unusual - love it or hate it name. Mentioned on here quite a bit lately.

Dc3 (sex unknown) - will either have a very classic boy's name or (if I get my way) quite an usual one, but not unheard of and is occasionally mentioned on here. If a girl, it will be another uncommon one, but is mentioned on here, but isn't very popular.

rainydaygrey · 18/12/2015 09:04

DS: should not have a nickname on his birth certificate.
DD: it's cos you is efnik, ya?

ashesandfire · 18/12/2015 09:06

Dd has a 'chavvy'/dated name and a 'filler ' overused middle name. Sigh. ....
My name is generally well liked but maybe verging on too popular, which is weird as when I was growing up it was unheard of

WhatsUpTC · 18/12/2015 09:20

My name is a seventies Essex name and will always be seen as a bit of a joke.

Dd name is American Irish and I should be embarrassed as an English person with proper Irish parents

RainbowDashed · 18/12/2015 09:29

me - classic - albeit with an alternative spelling to the one I have (tbh I agree, I do like my name, but I prefer the other spelling)

dd1 - pretty but overused, top 10, one of six "dd1's" in her year
dd2 - pretty but overused, top 10, one of six "dd2's" in her year

They both have a number of friends with the same name as they do. I had no idea when they were named how popular their names were. It's never really caused either of them a problem tbh and I do love their names.

LumelaMme · 18/12/2015 09:32

Mine: Once popular so now rates as dull.
The DCs: two are probably 'try hard' and two are old-fashioned and ghastly.

treaclesoda · 18/12/2015 09:33

My DCs names are generally quite well regarded by the good folk of mumsnet, but the biggest criticism of them is that they are boring and unadventurous. Which is fine by me Smile

My own name is one which sits at the outer limits of opinion when it is suggested for a baby, with opinions ranging from 'it's a beautiful underused classic' to 'I can't believe you hate your baby enough to consider calling her such an awful name'

bruffin · 18/12/2015 09:33

Both dc classic but boring, but not as popular in real life as you would think considering they were top 10 names when they were born. Neither had another one in the primary school class

LegoRuinedMyFinances · 18/12/2015 09:35

DS - middle of the road, popular (always in the top 20) and suits everyone from babies to old men.

DD - a classic but commonly used name (top 5). Mostly others use it as a middle name or hyphenated (bleurgh - I'm not a fan of this name being hyphenated). In fact there are no others with her name in her year, but six of them have her first name as their middle name.

IcecreamBus · 18/12/2015 09:36

I'd probably get told mine was absolutely ridiculous. Hence I don't ask for opinions Wink

LumelaMme · 18/12/2015 09:37

Oooh, I was wrong, I searched one and it went down quite well on the last baby name thread it was on.

CastaDiva · 18/12/2015 09:42

DS's name is so unusual in this country it didn't feature in the stats for his year of birth. I think it's only ever been mentioned a couple of times on here, but has been deemed 'posh' and 'try hard', despite it being an utterly ordinary name in several other countries. Plus he has my 'unpronounceable' Irish surname, which many on here clearly see as a Step Too Far, and likely to condemn him to a life of misery and mis-spellings.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/12/2015 09:44

Ooh! I have no idea..... I think we're probably in the yooneeq/try-hard camp.

Daffydil · 18/12/2015 09:54

Just done a quick search

DS - a bit too Bodeny apparently

DD (unborn, due Feb) - planned name mostly quite liked. Though apparently harsh and Unfeminine according to a few.

Fizrim · 18/12/2015 09:56

DD's is quite well liked surprised but has also been called pixie-ish or harsh sounding. Considering it's a very short name, I am aghast at the potential spellings that have been suggested!

My own name was unusual when I was little, and I wanted my DD to be able to see her name on items in shops as I always wanted to buy a name badge and never could. She always looks for her own name and is disappointed if it's not there.

IAmAPaleontologist · 18/12/2015 10:01

Ds1 is overly popular, dd's full name makes people think of a much hated politician and is a bit stuffy but her nickname is twee and has been described as ghastly. Ds2 would be ok except that it has got too popular recently and will therefore be dated.

I have well and truly fucked up Grin

hawkmcqueen · 18/12/2015 22:15

DS - a classic, but might be just too boring and popular ( always top ten)

DD1 - horrifically way too popular, mentioned all the time along the lines of 'please not another Name!' Even though it is at the bottom of top 10.

DD2 - it's classic, it has the Royal seal of approval, but some have an irrational hatred of it and others find it dull

I don't think you can win really!

soundsystem · 18/12/2015 22:23

DD's name is doesn't get mentioned often, but it made an appearance on the "strong girl's names" thread which was pleasing.
