Just for fun really, if you've ever come across your DC's name. I come across DS's frequuently on here but DD I did a name search for when she was first born (and quickly regretted!)

Mine:
A bit blah

DS:
A dog name/ a surname

DD:
Seventies american cheerleader/ council estate/ horrific

DS1 a bit Welsh
DS2 very Welsh

Helenluvsrob · 18/12/2015 22:29

Dd1 pretty much loved name on mn. Almost unknown when she was born.

DS classic solid mn name

Dd2 another pretty classic mn name

Bum! I was a mumsnetter for about 18yrs before I realised and was drawn to join the dark side lol

Lovelydiscusfish · 18/12/2015 22:42

Dd has an immensely popular name. Some on here find it "dull". She loves the fact that lots of girls in her ballet class have the same name (or a variant thereof) - I love it too! She has a couple of middle names - one is similarly popular, so "dull" ( but beautiful, in my opinion). The other is a family name, Iranian in origin, which most people I know, other than family, have been rude about, seeing it as unpronounceable (it really isn't) and pretentious.
Which all goes to show that you can't please any of the people, any of the time.
I have a name that is popular now, but was very rare within my peer group. I really hated that.

Tirfarthoin · 18/12/2015 22:53

Mine is an unusual spelling of an unusual name - a very big no no

DS1 has a very strong biblical name that has never been mentioned on MN as far as I have seen so I don't know but suspect it is judged as Bible Belt.

DS2 has a name that is mentioned a lot on here and seems to be generally approved of. It's in the top 100

Crazypetlady · 19/12/2015 01:45

ds name hasn't been mentioned afaik. It does seem unusual in spelling though. People would think I had spelt a popular name wrong.

I haven't it is a scandinavian name we loved the meaning.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 19/12/2015 02:20

DD1-divides opinion a bit. Either lovely or 'posh, horsey, too 'jolly hockey sticks'. Approved of for being a 'proper' name but well outside of th top 100.

DD2- pretty but getting too popular, apparently, despite only just being in the top 50.

TaliZorah · 20/12/2015 09:43

I rarely see DSs name but when I have people have liked it

jorahmormont · 20/12/2015 09:52

Mine is too American, too chavvy and became suddenly very VERY popular around 2004 (I'd had it for ten years by this point).

DD's is too Welsh, too uncommon, people will think she's called Ceiling. (We've never had anyone pronounce her name as Ceiling, despite what I was told on MN while pregnant Grin )

TaliZorah · 20/12/2015 09:54

Jorah I REALLY want to know what name they thought would be called ceiling! Confused

It's "Celyn" Tali Grin I did point out to them that we live in Wales, and as "celyn" is a well-known Welsh word, meaning holly and pronounced kell-in, she really wouldn't have a problem... but they were adamant Grin almost two years on and we only ever get compliments :)

TaliZorah · 20/12/2015 10:01

Jorah I'd have pronounced it kell-in, wouldn't have thought ceiling! I think it's lovely Smile

NoahVale · 20/12/2015 10:04

they like my name, my dd's name is gaining in popularity, my other dd's name is already popular but nobody at all likes DS name, and my dh name is not even on the radar

mercifulTehlu · 20/12/2015 10:06

Mine: unfashionable but not old-fashioned enough to have come round again

Ds: classic but a bit boring

Dd: perfect MN name Blush. Slightly unusual without being odd. Classy and feminine without being cutesy girly.

MamaLazarou · 20/12/2015 10:17

Try-hard and impossible to live up to. Grin

MissAlabamaWhitman · 20/12/2015 11:02

Padraig
Jacinta
Xavier
Romilly

I haven't been here long enough to know what your appraisal of them is, I'm sure you'll let me know Wink

ElviraCondomine · 21/12/2015 16:21

DD1: boy's name
DD2: hippy try-hard (one of those airy fairy Cornish ones)

HackerFucker22 · 21/12/2015 19:15

DS has a popular, strong name most common as middle name and the worst criticism I've read here is 'boring'.

DD has a name which is just in cusp of top 100 but not particularly likes here. Very similar name with a slightly different spelling is fawned over.

Rarely see my name mentioned and my DP name is awful and would be crucified here.

HackerFucker22 · 21/12/2015 19:15

not very well liked* here

Peach1886 · 21/12/2015 19:41

DS has a trying-too-hard posh dog's name Xmas Grin

YeOldeTrout · 21/12/2015 20:03

3 x DC: boring, boring, boring
1 x DC: in 2005 it was superchav-tastic but now it's highly approved of Confused

me; DH: horrible; solid-classic

HelenaJustina · 21/12/2015 20:13

I see my daughters names whenever people ask for longer, beautiful girls names... It worries me that people keep recommending them not really worried that they'll suddenly become much more common!

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 21/12/2015 20:30

DS: I love his name, its simple and classic but I've heard it called chavvy and a "naughty boys name" on here. ( I was going to pick something more "unique" but chickened out )

My name tends to divide opinion. Some people really seem to love it and others hate it and think its either old ladyish or a burden. I hated it as a child but don't really mind it too much now.

AwfulBeryl · 21/12/2015 20:36

My name is Grace, I fucking hate it because I am socially awkward and bloody clumsy. I It is probably deemed over used on here especially as a middle name.
My dts names are not approved by the Mn massive one is poncy and one is a dogs name.

HackerFucker22 · 21/12/2015 20:39

Loving trying to figure out all these cryptic clues lol.
