Archie & Angus for brothers?

Mclaren37 · 17/12/2015 05:19

Do you love or hate this combo for brothers? Thinking about possible little brother names for our son Archer. We love the name Angus but unsure if already having an Archer makes it a no-go?
I quite like that Archie & Angus are both Scottish names (we both have some Scottish parentage). But not sure that such similar sounding names, and with the same initial, is a good idea?
Do you think it sounds cool or odd?

Lovely names.

The only drawback is post later on in life addressed to Mr A Nameat the same address.

Sorry phone froze.

I actually know two brothers called Angus and Archie and I think they sound lovely together.

BondJayneBond · 17/12/2015 07:43

I quite like it.

Apart from concerns about post to Mr A Surname as mentioned above. Would middle names with different initials help with that?

SoWhite · 17/12/2015 08:13

I think it is a lovely name, and that you should go for it.

How much post are Archie and Angus expecting to get, that definitely can't be seen by their brother, in the time between birth and young adulthood?

A) Everything important is done by email.
B) I can't remember one thing, like a financial statement etc, that I'd have been bothered if my sister saw before I moved out at 18. And that was back when everyone used letters.

Sophronia · 17/12/2015 13:51

I think they're fine together. My cousins have the same initial and they've never had any real problems with post etc.

I agree with others, I like it. Post is a bit of a non-issue nowadays. DP and I share first initial and our DSs share first initial too - they are 15 and 14 now and never had a problem.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/12/2015 22:04

Lovely names, and fine together.

celtictoast · 18/12/2015 00:31

They go well together.

SingingSands · 18/12/2015 00:39

Angus is a fantastic name, and I think it complements Archie very well.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2015 00:40

They go fine together.

Teawaster · 18/12/2015 12:12

I like the combination and love both names. Wouldn't worry about the post thing. My dts have different initials but one has the same as DH so that's a potential issue as regards post .

Whatsinaname2011 · 18/12/2015 12:13

I know 2 brothers (3 and 1yr) called Angus and Archie!

ifigoup · 18/12/2015 12:17

Lovely combination! They're not too "matchy", but sound like a team!

Mclaren37 · 22/12/2015 01:39

Thanks everyone! Great to hear people think Angus is still usable!

Angus is a lovely name. Archie is fine too, but I think Hector and Angus or Gregor and Angus might sound even better!

Good Luck!
