What do people think of Darwin.

Mehitabel6 · 08/12/2015 22:30

Don't do it!

RiverTam · 08/12/2015 22:31

City in Australia.

Charles.

But it could work. I don't know. I reckon it could be one if those names that once you've got used to it is perfectly ok!

Belle9985 · 08/12/2015 22:31

Is it a boy's name? Hmm

Oysterbabe · 08/12/2015 22:31

I actually really like it but DH vetoed along with Gulliver. Some people are so boring Wink

SilverGiraffe7 · 08/12/2015 22:32

I love it - if DC3 had been a boy he'd have been Darwin Smile To be fair it started as a jokey bump name, but by the time I had her it had really grown on me!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/12/2015 22:33

I like it, nice and different but not odd.

I met a baby Gulliver recently oyster :)

megletthesecond · 08/12/2015 22:33

Yes, for a boy.

should guarantee a decent interest in science.

Belle9985 · 08/12/2015 22:34

I don't like it that much, but it would probably grow on me, if I knew someone with that name :)

lljkk · 08/12/2015 22:35

I like Gulliver better I know you didn't ask.
As surname-forenames go, Darwin is alright.

SilverOldie2 · 08/12/2015 23:16

Awful

Nospringflower · 08/12/2015 23:18

Don't love it but don't hate it either.

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2015 23:21

I don't mind it actually. I don't normally like surnamey names, but Darwin's OK.

ChippyOikInTinsel · 08/12/2015 23:25

I might be nuts but I associate it with being stupid, as well as with genetics obviously. The Darwin awards. People who took themselves out of the gene pool by dying as a result of their own stupidity.

I like Gulliver though.

LegoRuinedMyFinances · 08/12/2015 23:28

Am I the only one who will say Gumball?

Other kids will love it because of the Gumball reference (a cartoon character for those not in the know).

I quite like it too.

Tartyflette · 08/12/2015 23:30

Yes, my first thought was the Awards too....

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 08/12/2015 23:54

My first thought was Gumball too.

Darwin's a great name though, love it.

Sunshine511 · 08/12/2015 23:55

I have a relative by this name and always find his name gets a bit of a funny reaction if his name comes up in conversation with people who don't know him! I think people that know him would not think the name was odd in any way because you just get used to a name on a person! Not my cup of tea, personally, but it's what you like that counts Smile

NewBallsPlease00 · 08/12/2015 23:57

Are you from Shropshire? Popular (relatively) middle name there

fanjodisfunction · 09/12/2015 08:36

I'm glad the response is mainly positive I'm going in for a c section on Friday and we just decided we hate the boys name we choose. I suggested Darwin again to dh and he said yeah its OK, let's ask mumsnet. Think we might go into theatre with a couple of names and if its a boy see which one fits.

Sophronia · 09/12/2015 09:15

I like it.

Stollenlover · 09/12/2015 15:36

It's easy to spell, say and masculine sounding. And it's not overused as so many other names... I'd go for it if you love it! Good luck.

Artandco · 09/12/2015 15:41

I would assume you were German. It's popular there but pronounced 'dar-vin)

celtictoast · 09/12/2015 15:52

I would wonder if you were very interested in evolution.

SanityClause · 09/12/2015 15:54

I love it. I've never heard it used as a given name, but it's great! Go for it!

fanjodisfunction · 09/12/2015 17:37

I am an ecologist so it does seem very right to me.
