I'd like to use a version of Gwen as a middle name if we have a girl. The relative it would be after is Gwendoline but she dislikes the full name (and i'm not keen) so we could use just Gwen or are there other names with Gwen in?

I like welsh -'wen' names like Arianwen and Anwen, and I love the cornish Morwenna but the link wouldn't be at all obvious then.

Are welsh? What about Gwenllian?

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 05/12/2015 18:11

Gwenda
Gwenllian
Gwenyth/Gwyneth
Gwenfair (pronounced Gwen-vire)
Gwenno

"Gwen" is the female form of "Gwyn". It means white/pure/holy.

Are YOU Welsh? Fgs, keypad.

Gwenaelle
Gwenyth
Gwendolen/Gwendolyn
Gwenfrewi

There's also Guinevere, which is a form of Gwenhwyfar, and Jennifer which is the Cornish version.

Plain Gwen is lovely. Strong and pretty.

Gwen is really nice. Very unusual (certainly here in Scotland!) and not frilly.

Gwenneth, after the Brent Cou cupouncil building or a primary school site...!

Gwennan (Welsh and pronounced Gwen-Ann) is lovely

Thank you for all the suggestions. Gwen as it is is growing on me and would make the link to the person we love more obvious.

We aren't Welsh and so I think names like Gwenllian are out for us - I worked with one once and I'm not sure i ever pronounced it as she did!
