BFF baby name dilemma

Hello!

My bestie is having a girl, due in Feb, and is completely torn between Magda and Greta, like, absolutely cannot decide. I thought I'd ask the MN crew because I think she's going to go with a majority opinion and you guys know about baby names like no one else!

So, which one do you like best?

Greta, I think its prettier both spoken & written :)

RiverTam · 02/12/2015 16:45

Greta

Magda sounds quite harsh to my ear.

GeorgiaT2468 · 02/12/2015 16:45

Out of both Id say magda.

Very different names Iv never heard mind but magda id go for Smile xx

AuntieStella · 02/12/2015 16:46

Magda

Margaret and then she could call her Magda or Greta? I know Magda really comes from Magdalena but you could stretch it a bit :)

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 02/12/2015 17:04

Madga.

RivieraKid · 02/12/2015 17:05

I did try and suggest Margaret but she thinks it's too old-fashioned for her, as is Magdalena. It's Magda or Greta as full names, not nicknames, if you know what I mean.

The thing is, I'm useless her because I love both of them! They both sound mysterious and fairytale-like to me, the kind of girls you might meet in a forest carrying suspiciously red apples!

I like both, but I think I slightly prefer Greta.

spondulix · 02/12/2015 17:15

I love Magda, and the nickname potential is better.

celtictoast · 02/12/2015 20:19

Greta

JanuaryJuniper · 02/12/2015 22:53

Greta, beautiful!

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 02/12/2015 23:19

Is greta gree-ter or grett-er? Eeeee or eh!

Magda seems 'unfinished' but I like Magdalena.

OneMoreCasualty · 02/12/2015 23:22

Greta, but same question as PP

grumpysquash · 02/12/2015 23:28

Greta was the name of the smallest girl in The Sound of Music (I think), so I would go for that :)

grumpysquash · 02/12/2015 23:28

I think it's Grett-er (in a British accent), possibly Gree-ter in the US (?)

myotherusernameisbetter · 02/12/2015 23:50

It's Grett-ah in my "British" accent.

The smallest girl in the sound of music was Gretel.

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 03/12/2015 00:25

Greta - lovely, underused name

RivieraKid · 03/12/2015 09:28

Greta as in 'eh' yes :)

Greta. Such a cute name!

WishIWasWonderwoman · 03/12/2015 09:35

I like Magda but as a nickname for Magdalena.

So I would say Greta. I know a teenage Greta and it suits her really well.
