I'm just wondering what the original spelling of Hayley is - I see that Hailey is the most popular, but that isn't the original, is it?

Didn't Hayley become popular from the actress Hayley Mills? I thought Hayley is more popular in the UK, I think of Hailey as a more Americanised spelling.

I think the original spelling is probably Haley from the surname but apparently Hayley Mills' mother's middle name is Hayley so I think perhaps both Haley and Hayley are original spellings.

Hailey is a surname to me, Hayley is a first name

I know two Hayleys (both early 40s) and they both spell it Hayley. Never come across the other spelling.

Hayley imo.

Sophronia · 29/11/2015 19:06

Hailey is the most common spelling in the US, but Hayley is more popular in the UK.

I've only seen it spelt as Hayley. It's a pretty name and quite unusual these days. Due a comeback!

I know a Hayley in her 50s and a 14 year old Hailie

BackforGood · 29/11/2015 19:18

I've only ever met Hayleys.

Gracey79 · 29/11/2015 19:22

Much prefer Hayley - isn't Eminems daughter something like Hailie?

Lynne1258 · 29/11/2015 19:27

I named my daughter Hayley and she is 31 now I just loved the name

Lynne1258 · 29/11/2015 19:28

Forgot it was because of Hayley Mills

Sophronia · 29/11/2015 20:15

I know a 25 year old Hayleigh, but I prefer the Hayley spelling.
