Boys' names

Any thoughts? I like:

Wilfred
Nathaniel
Sebastian
Charles

I would welcome any more suggestions as I have loads of girls names I like but struggle with boys - even the above are more 'best of a bad bunch' than ones I love!

These are my favourite boys' names

Patrick
Levi
Leon
Malachy
Asa
Matthew
Gabriel
Evan
Adam
Alex

UnlikelyPilgramage · 18/11/2015 19:59

I quite like Matthew but otherwise not really to my taste sorry - if it's a boy he will end up nameless at this rate.

that's OK Smile

What about:

Hugo
Marcus
Michael

UnlikelyPilgramage · 18/11/2015 20:03

I absolutely love Hugo and it would be top of the list if it wasn't for the fact it's virtually identical to my surname Sad

Marcus is quite nice but makes me think of the boy in About a Boy for some reason! I'm not so keen on Michael - I don't dislike it but I don't love it.

Hugh
Rufus
Bruno

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:05

Laurence
Rowan
Benedict

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/11/2015 20:05

I like Nathaniel and Sebastian, and Charlie but dislike Charles.

Benedict
Theodore
Zachary
Lucas
Dylan
Stanley

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:06

Guy

BikeRunSki · 18/11/2015 20:08

I really like Nathaniel.

UnlikelyPilgramage · 18/11/2015 20:08

I like Benedict but it's awfully posh!

I don't like guy or rowan or Dylan at all, sorry (I should mention I work in a school! Far too many children have put me off perfectly nice names!)

Wow people have different perceptions of names.

Benedict is no posher to me than Charles or Sebastian. Or Hugo.

Benjamin then?

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:14

Right! Trying to 'place' your taste, and I think I'm getting there - fairly classic but not posh.

I also work in a school. Boys' names are tough at the best of times....

I also like Nathaniel but would use Nate as a NN

I have a Charles/Charlie but it because it became really popular that year (Charlie and Lola books had just been published) and I sort of regret that, even though I like the name and it suits him. You might be OK, though.

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:16

ThroughThick

I know! I have a posh-ometer that's set fairly low (I have an unusual name and was always accused of being 'posh', so I would steer clear of Sebastian, Jasper, Quentin etc)

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:19

John (underused, IMO)
Jack - I know it's a variant of John, but I still like it as a stand-alone)
Isaac

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:20

Slight curve-balls:

Gregory
Dominic

Narp · 18/11/2015 20:21

Louis

UnlikelyPilgramage · 18/11/2015 20:22

Isaac is nice. John always sounds very heavy to me, somehow - not keen on jack.

You're right that Hugo is also posh but I utterly love it so its poshness is a little lost on me Smile but it's a no sadly. Benjamin makes me think of a toy monkey DD has! Grin

OP posts:
UnlikelyPilgramage · 18/11/2015 20:22

I like Louis - but the surname again is an issue as its almost rhyming!

CakeRattleandRoll · 19/11/2015 12:51

How about Jago instead of Hugo?

Or:
Andrew
Edward
Arthur
Alasdair
Owen

Love Nathaniel.

BlueChampagne · 19/11/2015 13:59

Conrad or Anthony

Laquila · 19/11/2015 14:05

I have a Nathaniel. You might find some more inspiration on a thread I started last week asking for ideas for our second baby, due in a couple of months:

tammytoby · 19/11/2015 14:41

How about

Dominic
Quentin
Elliot
Magnus

KLG3101 · 19/11/2015 18:23

So many fabulous names thank you! Why can't my husband like any!!!

UnlikelyPilgramage · 19/11/2015 18:26

I don't either KL so I sympathise with your husband!

I like Andrew, Edward and Arthur but for various reasons they are out. I really don't like Conrad and have never been so keen on Anthony. I don't really like Dominic or Quentin and Magnus is rather too out there and I don't like surname-as-first-names at all.

I am fussy, I know!
