Is 3 middle names too much?

So, I'm still slightly torn between Elliott or Oliver, but I'm pretty sure he will be Elliott - I wanted Elliott Russell, as Russell is my dad's name, but I'm now thinking I would like Elliott Russell, my husband's dad's name and my husband's name... Is this too much? :(

Well, no one will ever use all three names but I don't see why you shouldn't use them if you want to.

Another thing to consider though - what if you have another boy in the future and you have used up all the meaningful names to you on your older son?

IoraRua · 13/11/2015 20:24

I'd be wary of using up all meaningful middle names in one go.
Other than that tis fine, probably a bit of a mouthful but he won't be called by them all regularly (I assume).

SolsburyHell · 13/11/2015 20:30

Yes it is too much. You can just about get away with 2 middle names, so choose dfils names.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/11/2015 20:46

So Elliott Russell James Michael Smith?

It would be too many for me but I don't think it really matters. Middle names are used once in a blue moon.

shoopshoopsong · 13/11/2015 20:48

Too much you'll just have to have another baby!

Mummamayhem · 13/11/2015 20:51

Don't do it! I have three and it's a pita. Never have enough room on forms, I try not to use them but passport/drivers licence/bank/house buying becomes really annoying. (Especially when like me I miss spell one of my own bloody names! Even my parents couldn't remember!)

Oh and everyone laughed at the long string of stupid names repeated over and over at my wedding :-(

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 13/11/2015 20:59

Two max. Unless you are aristocratic

Wondersicles · 13/11/2015 21:07

Yeah, I might go for 2 - my dad's name and DH's dad's name :)

What's the limit on a passport and standard forms? That might help. I think three mn would be a total pita.

IoraRua · 14/11/2015 21:19

I knew a girl with 9 middle names. All on the passport iirc.

Op, I like your idea of both grandads names instead of Russell.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 14/11/2015 21:23

I have 3 middle names and it is a total pain.

Forms don't have enough space on them, I always get comments when phoning and needing to say my full name, and my now exh forgot my full name at our wedding.

Oysterbabe · 15/11/2015 16:24

Tbh I think 2 middle names is too many. 3 definitely is!

hels71 · 15/11/2015 17:59

My DD has 3 middle names....we think it's just fine!(but we would)

Ilovethestars · 15/11/2015 21:40

No, do want you want a go for it. I personally wouldn't do it, but there are lots of people in our family with loads of names and they're all lovely, so I can see why the parents were hard pressed to choose.

I think six names in total is the max you can have, when UK registering, but I might be wrong.
