Due after Christmas and I don't seem to have a clue with names this round.

This is the shortlist. I'm open to honest opinions and ideas (you can see from the list I don't really have a type other than I'm not keen on anything cutesy!)

Thanks!

Girls:
Verity
Elizabeth
Anna
Indigo (still my favourite but is it even a name?! And is it too pretentious?!!)

Boys;
Kit
Heath
Oran
Rex
Jude
Ralph (pronounced rafe.. In theory)
Elliott

If you could stick a middle name on them too even better!!!!

Boys only like
Jude and Elliot

MirandaGoshawk · 02/11/2015 18:19

Your girls' names are all OK but I don't love them. Although not sure about Indigo, yy to Indigo child & yes you might regret something so... of the moment. I am so glad I didn't call my DD Savannah! There are loads of beautiful names out there - why not cast the net a bit wider Ariadne, Tabitha

Out of your boys' names, I love Kit. I know a Kit and he is adorable. :) Jude & Ralph are OK. Not keen on the others

SevenOhTwo · 02/11/2015 18:25

DD knew a very sweet little girl at nursery called Indigo. I think its lovely, and if it's your favourite then go for it!

All of the boys names are fine but none really stand out to me. would you consider Raphael if you like Ralph?

SevenOhTwo · 02/11/2015 18:28

Also, I've not come across Oran, but written down it looks too much like
Oral to me. Torrin?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 02/11/2015 18:52

Elliot Is a gorgeous name. It just cunjures up a really polite and well behaved little boy. When you say after Christmas do you mean after Christmas day. Is he or she due within the 12 days of Christmas.
Suggestions for a middle name
Elliot ANDREW
Elliot Matthew
Elliot Adam
Elliot Joseph
Elliot James
Elliot Gabriel
Elliot Paul
Elliot Thomas

For a girl. Anna.
Suggestions for a middle name
Anna Grace
Anna Beth
Anna Sophia
Anna Nicole
Anna Mae
Anna Louise
Anna Rae

wigglesrock · 02/11/2015 19:21

I like your girls names apart from Indigo. It just doesn't sound that great to me, its a bit blah. I like Etty from Verity. I think with your girls names you could use any combination as a first and middle name :
Verity Elizabeth
Indigo Elizabeth
Elizabeth Anna etc

Your boys - I don't like Rex, never have done. I like Oran but I spell it differently. Kit - its a bit trendy wendy, alright as a shortening for Christopher but I think its quite now/ of its time as a given name. Ralph, if you're going to pronounce it Rafe I'd think about the spelling. Elliott is nice enough.
Jude is my favourite by a long way, I think its a lovely name.

Junosmum · 02/11/2015 20:05

Verify and Jude

Sophronia · 02/11/2015 20:20

Verity and Heath

ashesandfire · 02/11/2015 21:37

Verity - this is a bit twee to me. Not helped by the fact that my cousin is called Verity and I really don't like her.
Elizabeth - nice but whispers a bit dull? I prefer Eliza which is gorgeous or Bethany (but I'm biased)
Anna - gorgeous! my favourite of your girls names.
Indigo (still my favourite but is it even a name?! And is it too pretentious?!!) - I guess it's OK but I prefer India.

Boys;
Kit - love this as a nn for Christopher but not sure about it as a name in its own right
Heath - just reminds me of Ledger and his tragic end
Oran - I like it!
Rex - a dog
Jude - LOVE.
Ralph (pronounced rafe.. In theory) - this is pretentious
Elliott - I like this.

Anna & Jude are my favourites!

zippyswife · 02/11/2015 21:40

Thanks for all the replies. It's not making it clearer for me though!!!

What about anna indigo? Can her nn be Indy?
Sounds like Elliott and Jude are the most popular boys names. Both would go well nicely with my 2ds names.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/11/2015 21:43

love indigo- the rest are boring sorry.but indy is fab.

elliot or jude fir boys

HelenF35 · 02/11/2015 21:45

Love Elliott but I might be a bit bias Grin

celtiethree · 02/11/2015 23:20

Love Oran, not keen on the girl choices.

Supamommy10 · 02/11/2015 23:28

I'm sorry I love Indigo and I'm not too keen on the boys names you've gotta find something else just as fab as Indigo!!!!!! That name rocks ????????!!!!!

SniffsandSneezes · 02/11/2015 23:30

Indigo sounds like the name of a crappy bar/nightclub in a crappy town. Verity is ok, I like Anna and Elizabeth.

Oran- that's not a name (Odhran is if you want to spell it the proper Gaelic way) and for what it's worth my phone just autocorrected it to Iran twice

Kester- never heard that before, made me think of kestrel birds.

SniffsandSneezes · 02/11/2015 23:31

If you go for Anna Indigo you'll find people put the loathed (for me) invisible R in so it'll be AnnaRindigo

Forgot to say... every guy I now called Kit is actually Christopher

Hopesicles · 02/11/2015 23:37

My favourites are Indigo and Elliott - I like Grace/Paige and James/Blake (for middle names) x

PurpleDaisies · 02/11/2015 23:37

Another no vote for Indigo but all the other girls are really nice. Verity is my favourite.

I'm not particularly keen on any of the boys (I don't like Kester either sorry). Christopher is my favourite but I don't like Kit!

jemimastar · 03/11/2015 17:14

LOVE Anna + Jude and Rex from the boys.

People who say Rex = dog. How dull. Honestly, when was the last time you really, truly heard of a dog called Rex, really?? I never have. I do know the most adorable, energetic, handsome little 3 year old called Rex and he never stops getting compliments about his name. I also know a dashing 35 year old lawyer, Jude.

Rex and Jude could both be writers, doctors, actors or artists, can totally imagine a gorgeous little boy called these names or a grown man, dare to be slightly different OP and those slating your names will probs only like the Thomas's/ Jack's of the world, do you seriously want to consider their very play it safe, boring tastes?! Got for it, both are lovely.

starkers1 · 03/11/2015 17:19

100% agree jem + OP found an old MN thread with more cool, open minded peoples opinions, see loads of people love Rex! Wink

jezzathebezza · 03/11/2015 17:22

Another vote here for Anna- girls

Then in order of preference, boys-

Rex
Kit
Jude

zippyswife · 03/11/2015 18:24

Thanks for all the opinions again! I feel so confused.
Is tell yu what my ds names are but they are unusual enough for it to out me. One very classic old name but very very uncommon and the other an old name which is pretty common and probably a bit 'of the moment'. I could see either anna or indigo going as well with the names or William or Rex. It's tough!!

OP posts:
IoraRua · 03/11/2015 19:31

Considering Andrex had that famous puppy it's hardly unsurprising that Rex still = dog to many people, is it?
I never meet dogs called Lucky anymore, I still think of it as a dog name (and yes, I know people who would call a child Lucky).

yeOldeTrout · 03/11/2015 19:41

folk are gonna think Indigo is really Iago and a boy.
I know a cute girl called India (white british, she still carries it off).

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2015 19:48

folk are gonna think Indigo is really Iago and a boy.

I don't agree with this-I'm sure people will recognise indigo as a name. It isn't at all to my taste but I don't think you'll have to worry about people thinking it supposed to be something else.
