Brother for Tom, George and Harry... Jack?

We have a boy and Jack seems the name to go with. We're split between 'it's a great name and that's all that matters' and 'there might be 3 in his class'. Any thoughts? Any better ideas? He's 4 days old so need to decide!!

Thanks

It's lovely and goes well. How about Will?

Creamcrackered1 · 22/10/2015 21:50

Will and Harry a bit too regal for me (especially with a George). I need swaying to or from Jack so can everyone's responses agree please? ;)

Ian, Gary or Nigel?

Ds is 4, I only know 1 jack at his school and 1 in wider circle, your other boys names are more common around here because they're great

froggyjump · 22/10/2015 22:31

we chose Zac over Jack because we were worried about popularity - now he is one of 4 (yes 4, Zac, Zakariah, and 2 Isaac's known as Zac) in a class of 23, with no Jack at all!!

Jack is a lovely name, and it is popular for a reason, go for it!

CelestiaLuna · 22/10/2015 22:41

I only know 1 Jack who is 5. I have 4 children so come into contact with a lot of kids. Henry and Edward seem far more popular, I'm in s. East.

Lunastarfish · 23/10/2015 08:23

Benjamin?

Llouh · 23/10/2015 08:36

Joel?

Not too out there but also not likely to be lots of them.

BikeRunSki · 23/10/2015 09:05

I think Jack fits perfectly.

There are a lot more Zaks than Jacks amongst my children's peers (4-7).

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/10/2015 09:15

Jack is lovely.

pilates · 23/10/2015 09:32

Yes it's a great name.

GissASquizz · 23/10/2015 09:35

I am biased, but Jack rocks.

smartyclogs · 23/10/2015 09:40

I really like Jack however I understand your concerns about popularity.

Having an extremely common/used name myself from the 70s I hated being known by my name and surname together.
This has obvioulsy continued into the workplace where there are 5 of us with the same first name, so again I'm known as Name T. Angry

What about Jake? It's quite similar to Jack, only there aren't 100s of them!

helentheheron · 23/10/2015 10:07

Jack is a lovely name and I doubt it would be more popular than your other children's names so if it doesn't bother you with them then shouldn't with him iyswim? Personally I think there are advantages to having a commonly used name (I say this as someone who has the most popular girl's name for the year of their birth).

As an alternative you could use John with nn Jack?

squoosh · 23/10/2015 10:26

It definitely goes with your others sons' names. It's popular but so are his brother's names so I can't see it would be a massive issue. And he may well end up being the only Jack in his class.

Edward/Eddie is nice too.

Moodyblue1 · 23/10/2015 12:28

I love Jack, I only know 2 one is 11 and the other 5. It's a popular name but more of a classic so they are spread out in age.

Blahia · 23/10/2015 23:24

Have I missed something? Is Jack all of a sudden super popular?!

In all seriousness: I think Jack fits the other names PERFECTLY, and it's a great name! (Not my usual taste, but I'm really liking it!!)

Congrats on him, btw! X

BikeRunSki · 24/10/2015 00:02

Blahia Jack has been in the top 3 baby names for about 10 years, with several years at #1.

There are 2 Jacks in DS's year 2 class (age 6) and there were two a few years behind me at school (would be about 40 now). Those are the only ones I know.
