Opinions please...for a girl. She is two and half weeks old and DH and I agree on nothing. Beginning to feel quite down about it , so please be gentle!

India is so much better...

AMonsterInParis · 14/10/2015 13:44

As in Jones....?

Daphnedolittle · 14/10/2015 13:57

I like it. Indie is a nice shortening.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/10/2015 13:58

Not sure about Indiana. Love India.

JassyRadlett · 14/10/2015 14:02

'We called the dog Indiana.'

I think the films are classic enough for this to be scuppered as a girl's name, OP.

If you like Indy, I know a small India and Indigo.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 14/10/2015 14:04

Indiana is sweet. India or Diana as nn.

Just seen indigo listed above too. Indigo is pretty.

DatsunCogs · 14/10/2015 14:05

I know a girl named Indiana and she is very sweet, if you like it, why not?!

IamSantaClaus · 14/10/2015 14:05

I love it . I wasn't brave enough to use it though. Indie is a great nn

BreeVDKamp · 14/10/2015 14:08

There's a 7 month old Indiana (girl) at one of the baby groups I go to. It's sweet on her. Thinking about it, Indiana does sound like a v girly name for Mr Jones to be carrying off!

celtictoast · 14/10/2015 14:28

Everyone will say "Jones" as if it was the most original thing ever.

Indira?

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 14/10/2015 16:46

My friend's niece is Indie-May.

That's way too frilly, but Indiana isn't great either.

Indie short for India or Indira perhaps.

CPtart · 14/10/2015 16:54

Don't like it. I know an Indy (boy) with a brother Rusty. Ridiculous.

Laliberty · 15/10/2015 08:03

I like Indiana, but I love Indigo.

manicinsomniac · 15/10/2015 10:10

I taught a girl called Indiana once. I like it but prefer India.

standinginthedoorway · 15/10/2015 10:38

Don't like it but do like India.

WoodleyPixie · 15/10/2015 10:49

Its ok, I prefer India though. Really wish we had used India for dd1.

Minimaus · 15/10/2015 11:02

Both Indiana (state in the US) and India (country in Asia) remind me so much of the places - do you have any connections there?

DeepBlueLake · 15/10/2015 11:09

Love it! very pretty, it's different but not un heard of and it is pronounceable. Indi is a great nickname too.

MrsCaecilius · 15/10/2015 14:54

Indiana sounds rather male to me. India with the nn Indie is sweet though.

NewbieT · 15/10/2015 15:20

Thanks very much for the opinions... I must admit it doesn't make me think of the film and I have no connections to the place Indiana (or India) , it just sounds pretty to me - was just worried in case it sounds a bit try-hard or like a made-up name, so it's good to know there's a few little Indianas out there!

Indiana is adorable! I have an India-Rose (a grown up 21 yr old now & named because of my love for Bollywood films and after the character India Wilkes in Gone With The Wind!) Any unusual name will get smart Alec comments, take no notice! It's a beautiful name! India gets called Indie and Indigo by friends which are equally lovely!

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 18/10/2015 20:29

To me, Indiana is a boys name. Cos, well, Jones. But I love India for a girl, beautiful name. I'd also consider Indigo to be a male name, personally.

smartyclogs · 18/10/2015 20:39

I know an India and her sister is called Amber.
What about that?

Roobix04 · 18/10/2015 20:43

Love Indiana. I say go for it. I have a little Indigo and we call her Indi.

BondJayneBond · 18/10/2015 20:45

I think of it as a boys name because of Indiana Jones.
