'Masculine' girls names?

QuestioningStuff · 12/10/2015 13:10

Posting for my pregnant best friend. She is expecting a girl and really likes 'masculine' girls names (like Alex or Sydney nn Sid) but we're struggling to come up with many.

What masculine girls names are there? Including nick names?

Some brilliant ideas here thankyou! takes note for any future DDs of mine

We really love Lenny but not sure it works as a name in itself. Could it be short for something? She does like the idea of a more 'feminine' name with a 'masculine' nn.

I love love Ronnie and Benn though.

I love the name Leigh.

Others that might fit the bill are
Dale
Rae
Fallon

Lenny could be short for

Lenora
Leonora
Leonie
Helen

Heidi Klum has a Leni. I think that's Helene or Helena.

Jordan
Morgan
Jamie
Andy (Andrea?)
Parker
Harper
Freddie (Frederica)
MacKenzie

Doesn't one celeb have a DD called Dylan? Or maybe it's Dylan-Jorje.

I once met a very glamorous woman called Sean. I was a bit perplexed.

If she grows up to be rough, a tomboy or butch lesbian, perhaps she will love a masculine name. I feel sorry for her if she turns out to be girly girly, feminine and elegant and would have adored a pretty feminine name.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 12/10/2015 20:42

What an odd thing to say BabyLove. Anyone can hate their name - including plenty of pretty pretty names. But just because someone is "feminine and elegant" doesn't mean that they want a frilly name. I know I dissed her naming choices up thread, but Blake Lively and her co star Leighton Meister are good examples. Blake has gone on record as loving her name.

Wishful80smontage · 12/10/2015 20:43

A lot of the names mentioned here are in the top 100 so think all kinds of girls will have these nanes babylove - might not be your cup of tea but obviously popular with a lot of others. Names don't define a person - I don't like frilly floral names but I wouldn't assume that they would only suit a particular type of girl.

My mum is Lenore nicknamed Leni and if DS2 was a girl he would have been Valentina nicknamed Leni.

Hope that helps!!

Florence?

I know a few men called this although its probably not going to be popular to say that for all mums of Florences on here who like 'pretty girly names' :)

My mums female friend is called Barrie. Her father was convinced she was a boy and wanted a boy. They chose the name Barrie and stuck with it when it turned out she wasn't a boy! Her middle name is Clare but her father insisted she be known as Barrie!

LisbethSalandersLaptop · 13/10/2015 16:40

god that is just dreadful Junosmum!

I named dd Blake. I have family in America who say it's used frequently for girls. I do get mixed reactions to it, mainly the Hmm faces are from older generations but we love it. I also know a few girls called Ray and Toni.

GummyBunting · 13/10/2015 16:53

For what it's worth I'm quite an elegant girly with a man's name and I love it. People say it really suits me.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 13/10/2015 17:04

I like Rory for a girl, short for Aurora :)

Lenny could be short for Helena?

Girlfriend36 · 13/10/2015 17:24

Toni was highly popular when I was at school in the 90s, hardly ever hear of it now!

UglyJellyShoes90 · 13/10/2015 18:19

The Toni I know wasn't shortened for Antonia or anything. Her dad was Tony so only the spelling changed. She'd be about 13 now and another I know is 15.

My favourite, Frankie
