Edd is today!

Can't decide between
Imogen
Beth
Hannah

My family shorten names all the time - Ilve Beth - but hate Betty/ Betsy ....

Imogen - love it too- but have concerns it would be shortened to 'emmie' or Ginny (ugh)

Also love Greta but dh doesn't

Hannah is nice but we have a n Ana in the family .....

Any thoughts of this
Which is your fave
How do I stop my (dad) family shortening a beautiful name to something horrible

Hannah was on my list so l vote that name Smile

mcdog · 10/10/2015 08:05

Beth

PookBob · 10/10/2015 08:06

Imogen

sooperdooper · 10/10/2015 08:07

Hard choice, I like all of them! Think. Hannah is my favourite though, I know a couple and only ever hear it shortened to Han

Duckdeamon · 10/10/2015 08:14

Imogen would be the most likely shortened (eg "Immy").

Is the Anna in your family in the same generation and a close relative that you would see a lot? If not, Hannah should be fine and is hard to change!

Beth is quite hard to shorten too!

Hepzibar · 10/10/2015 08:16

My DD is Beth, still love it 20 years on - so does she.

I like Imogen.

Hannah is ok but it would be pronounced 'Anna round these parts because nobody appears to be able to pronounce haitches. Worse still it would 'Annoh'

Blueturquoise · 10/10/2015 09:33

The Anna is dh s niece, try don't live close but we would see them a few times a year, I know we could use it but I m a tiny bit reluctant, not sure why!
DS and dd prefer Hannah.
Dh has suggested Lana too, which I like.

Beth. Lovely. Hannah is also lovely but you meet more Hannahs than Beths, I think. Personally I'm not so keen on Imogen, but I don't really know why.

manicinsomniac · 10/10/2015 09:52

Hannah is my favourite. Love it.

Also really like Imogen.

Less keen on Beth but it's ok

IamSantaClaus · 10/10/2015 09:57

Imogen is lovely , Hannah is nice .

Not too keen on Beth

FortyFacedFuckers · 10/10/2015 10:00

I like Imogen the best

Finola1step · 10/10/2015 10:03

I like Hannah (it is dd's middle name).

I like Beth but would be tempted to go for Bethan and use Beth as the shorter name.

BertrandRussell · 10/10/2015 10:06

Call her Elisabeth and he can shorten it to Beth

Blueturquoise · 10/10/2015 10:20

Bertrandrussle - fabulous plan Smile
I ve dithered over using Elizabeth on birth cert - I like Beth and Eliza / Lilly so she could be shortened to lots, I don't like Elizabeth but hat could just be for the birth cert- the poor child will probably have an identity crisis!

Hannah

BeautifulLiar · 10/10/2015 10:51

Imogen definitely! But all the Hannahs and Beths I knew were gross...

mrsschu · 10/10/2015 11:17

Imogen is the best from your list but she may get the nn "Immy"... Also where I am in north London there are currently a lot of Imogen's springing up (if that bothers you).

swimmerforlife · 10/10/2015 11:42

Hannah is lovely!

celtictoast · 10/10/2015 15:08

Beth is nice, perhaps short for Bethany?
Hannah is a nice classic name.
I don't like Imogen.
Lana or Alana are very nice.

ashesandfire · 10/10/2015 15:18

I am Imogen and my dd is Beth(any) :-)
I love my name and it has never been shortened to Ginny or Emmie (? Do you mean Immy?)
When I was younger I got Imo or Immy a lot, not so much now except for a few close friends. To people I've met as an adult I'm always Imogen. Mo to my mum!
I second previous suggestions of Elizabeth, Bethany, Bethan (or Elsbeth?) Then your family will shorten it to the name you want! (Hopefully!)
Hannah is OK but a bit plain for me.

Floralnomad · 10/10/2015 15:20

I'd go with Lana .

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 10/10/2015 15:43

I know a lot of Beths/Bethanys between the ages of 6 and 14, haven't heard it for a baby recently so she'll likely be the only one in her class.

Lots of Imogens about but it is a lovely name if you don't mind the shortening of Immy.

Hannah is a nice, classic name but I personally think it's a little bit boring.

Lana is really nice. I know a really cool 14 yo called Lana. All pink hair and eyeliner, it suits her.

Blueturquoise · 11/10/2015 00:05

Yes I meant immy :).
Not a fan of Bethan or Bethany just like Beth. Um still stuck I guess,
At the moment Lana and Beth are forerunners - Imogen is lovely but withthe surname it s going to end up quite a mouthful.

CakeRattleandRoll · 11/10/2015 03:10

I would use Beth as shortening for Elizabeth. Lovely.
I like Imogen, but then I am fine with nn Immy or Genny or Mo.
Prefer Lara to Lana.
