Disagree about the TV show comments. It's not that big or cult a show / no one will be talking about it in 5 yrs time / the character is in fact called Stirling Archer - ie Archer is his surname (as it is for so many people since it is a surname after all).
Agree that if you hate Archie then it might not be the best choice.
Agree that it is kind of preppy American in style, but that's not a bad thing imo.
Totally biased as we have a two year old Archer :) - but then we are English/Scots for whom it is an old family name. He gets called Archer or Arch (and Archie as a toddler by our UK relatives!) And we also live in the States right now where the name, and those similar to it, is pretty normal and popular. Funnily enough Americans are always saying to is 'oh what a very English name!' - while everyone back home thinks it's totally American.
