Penny or Penelope?

Pregnant with DD3 and we have chosen the name Penny, We just cant decide to have her officially as Penny or Penelope.
She would be known as Penny from day 1 whatever we chose (unless she decided to change that in the future) so that makes us think to register her officially as Penny - Why have a fuller name with no intention to use it?
But It might be nice for to be registered as Penelope so she had free choice which to use as an adult, However IMO Penny in itself is a 'Proper' name.

No name hating please, We love the name and it suits our family. Middle names have been chosen and are family names (2 names, each 2 syllables) and surname is 1 syllable.

Help most welcome Smile

I love Penelope, Penny is a bit weak and wet so if it were me I'd def give the option of the longer name too.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 03/10/2015 10:06

Penelope was on the list for my dd.

Doesn't really fit with our surname though.

I would put Penelope on her papers, then she can have a choice in the future.

rubybloom2 · 03/10/2015 10:07

Lovely name. Penny sounds cute and Penelope more grown up and elegant to me, so I would go with the latter so she has the choice in future.

Daphnedolittle · 03/10/2015 10:10

Definitely Penelope. It's a lovely name.

Mehitabel6 · 03/10/2015 10:12

Penelope- give her the options.
She also won't have a lifetime explaining that it is 'just Penny on the birth certificate, and no she isn't Penelope'.

3timesascrazy · 03/10/2015 10:19

Thats a very good point Mehitabel6! I know a few people with shortened official names (think brad, instead of Bradley) who are forever explaining they are just 'brad'

Agree Mehitabel. And Penelope is a lovely name. Much harder to change back to it from Penny if she until given the theoretical choice, iyswim.

Are you giving her a second name?

NegativeIron · 03/10/2015 10:37

If she wants if she is not given the theoretical choice. Sorry..

Sophronia · 03/10/2015 11:45

Definitely Penelope on the bc.

Piglet333 · 03/10/2015 12:28

Definitely Penelope, giving her the option is better. ?? Lovely name choice btw!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 03/10/2015 12:32

Well it depends, would you mind if she opted for Nel/Nelly instead or even her full title, if so I would just put Penny on her BC, if however you have no issues with other nn's of her using her full name then I would put Penelope on her BC.

LisbethSalandersLaptop · 03/10/2015 12:33

Penelope is a great name!

Lunastarfish · 03/10/2015 15:10

Go for Penelope. My cousin is Mandy, not Amanda - being asked if she is Amanda drives her crazy!

I know3 adult Pennys. They are All Penelope

CakeRattleandRoll · 03/10/2015 15:58

Penelope on the bc. Beautiful name.

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2015 18:28

I'd go for Penelope to give her options in the future.

Lovely choice.

Artandco · 03/10/2015 18:30

Penelope, then she can also choose Nell/ Nelly later on if she wants

CremeEggThief · 03/10/2015 18:33

Another vote for Penelope.

RainwildsGirl · 03/10/2015 19:33

Penelope is on our list for DC4 and would likewise be shortened to Penny. I am a big fan of giving the kids options in later life -either to use their full name or a different nickname.

I have a long name and go by a shortened version, have done ever since I was a small child but I use my long name for official/medical stuff and keep the short for family and friends. I love having the distinction hence why I have done the same for my DC.

Penelope is a great name!

celtictoast · 03/10/2015 19:34

Penelope, with Penny as nickname.
