Louis?

Any thoughts on Louis. This is one of our top names, but one or two people have mentioned rising popularity and how it's now an Eastenders baby name Confused Not sure this is enough to put us off yet but thought I'd check here for opinions

I know a lot of them! 5 under 2.

Caprinihahahaha · 03/10/2015 09:15

I have a Louis in his 20s
He's the only one in his peer group . It may be getting more popular. I've heard it more in recent years.
one downside is the dickheads that pronounce the s so bear that in mind. It still irritates me when people call him 'Lewis.'

Onedirectionarestillloved · 03/10/2015 11:43

I think its a great name.

manicinsomniac · 03/10/2015 17:21

I know 1 in his early 30s and 1 who is 13. I think that's it.

I also know a Lewis who is about 17 and a Luis of 14 but those are both pronounced differently.

shoopshoopsong · 03/10/2015 17:23

It's quite popular but really nice

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/10/2015 17:26

Love Louis, really lovely name.

aormpletor · 04/10/2015 14:41

Thank you. I think this is still our top contender now

I know one Louis and one Luis, both under 10. Both pronounce it the non French way, so Loo-is. Actually Luis is half Spanish.

ImperialBlether · 05/10/2015 13:38

Love it. I have a Louis in his 20s, too, Capri! Used to get really pissed off with teachers in particular who called him Lewis. I love the name - it's very cool.

Marcipex · 05/10/2015 14:49

It's a mine trap though Imperial.
I know a Louis whose mother has a go at teachers who don't call him Lewis.

She wants it pronounced Lewis. Why spell it that way then? English speakers naturally read it as Louis.

ImperialBlether · 05/10/2015 14:52

But why didn't she spell it Lewis on the birth certificate? It's a French name, so you pronounce it without the 's'. Mind you, I've seen it spelled as Louie, which is even worse, imo.

Marcipex · 05/10/2015 15:10

Why indeed, Imperial, she chose Louis as the spelling, and Lewis as the pronunciation.
Only we aren't all telepathic, so we can't guess that.

PontyGirl · 05/10/2015 15:21

It's absolutely gorgeous and I'd use it if I ever got the chance!

Minimaus · 05/10/2015 19:24

In many countries Louis is pronounced with the s, even though it is an original French name.

And in the US it is often pronounced Loo-is as is the city of St Louis in Missouri. So don't assume that everyone will pronounce it the French way!
