Having second thoughts...

Posted a few months ago as we were struggling to find a girls name for DC2. A boy will be Samuel Robert. Narrowed it down to 2, Anya and Talia (middle name will be Faith). Decided on Anya as I was a bit unsure if Talia was a bit too unusual and would raise eyebrows (especially from GP's!). However have recently had a bit of an about-face and now possibly prefer Talia out of the two - perhaps using Tilly as a nickname??

Surname is Irish/Scottish and goes with most things. DH likes both of the above choices. Would be interested to hear your thoughts, and any other suggestions. DD was soooo much easier!! Confused

Love both names, think talia is really pretty. Although if shortening to anything, I would go with tali. But personally I think it's too pretty to shorten it!

BikeRunSki · 02/10/2015 19:27

Talia is much prettier than Anya.

SmugairleRoin · 02/10/2015 19:49

Both of them are nice, I agree with pp that I'd shorten to Tali or possibly Lia.
Much of a muchness in it imo - I certainly don't think Talia is too weird.

Tanya as a suggestion maybe?

I love Anya!
Talia is OK.

Thanks for the comments. The other suggestions for nicknamed are definitely worth thinking about! Smile

I prefer Anya

I prefer Thalia. Don't like Tilly though. Maybe Tali, as others said, could work better.

NerrSnerr · 03/10/2015 15:42

Love Anya, but that might be because she's my favourite Buffy character.

twattersonsmythe · 03/10/2015 16:04

Oh no! I used to quite like Talia, but as I started to read your post, the word genitalia popped into my head and now I can't un-see it when I look at the name.

manicinsomniac · 03/10/2015 17:03

Talia's lovely but I prefer Anya.

Talia is a hebrew name isn't it? I know lots of Jewish Talias. Why would GPs find it funny?

swimmerforlife · 05/10/2015 04:35

Anya is much prettier.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 05/10/2015 04:47

Talia or Thalia (my preferred spelling) is beautiful and not weird, or even that unusual now.

Are you going to pronounce it TAAR-lee-a though, not Teh-LEE-a?

I don't like Tilly either, too twee. Tali is better.

Anya sounds a bit hard to me, I prefer Anna.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 05/10/2015 07:48

Thanks for the latest comments. We would be pronouncing it TAAR-le-a and went with the Talia spelling to avoid mispronounciation with a Th- sound at the beginning.

coming, I think the name just isn't one they'd have across and can't imagine any of them saying it in my head!
