Sister for Meredith?

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 15:59

So we have our boys name all sorted but struggling to agree on a girl's name. Our DD is called Meredith (Merry) so which of these do you think goes best?

Alexandra (Alex or possibly Lexi)
Therese (Tess or Tessa)
Caroline (Callie)
Eloise (Ellie)
Penelope (Penny)
Charlotte (Charlie)
Felicity (Flick or Fliss)

If relevant we use both the full name and nickname in everyday life.

Thank you! Smile

Therese is a great choice, I love it.
Don't like Penelope or Alexandra at all, Penelope just feels clunky and Alexandra is a perfectly good name but I've taught a few and seen it a lot on here so it's starting to get a bit dull.
Eloise is pretty but I can see this rising in popularity and there are so many Ellies...so no.
Charlotte...nothing wrong with it but just doesn't do it for me, it feels a bit dull.
I think Caroline and Felicity are beautiful.

All in all you've picked some lovely names op, all very elegant and feminine. Therese would be my first choice though as its so unusual, pretty and refreshing.

Belazu84 · 29/09/2015 16:19

My first choice would be Tessa (but not therese)

I also love Caroline and Callie is cute.

BoldFox · 29/09/2015 16:19

Olwen

Really dislike the name Felicity. It's harsh, and quite long, flick, and Fliss are dreadful too, imo, it doesn't shorten sensibly into adulthood particularly so you are left with fullissittee, every time. that is awful.

Lottie and Penny are lovely.

gingerchick · 29/09/2015 16:20

Judith is nice

BoldFox · 29/09/2015 16:20

OP,

What about Eluned (nn Ellie) seems to match Meredith better.
or, cornish name Elowen

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/09/2015 16:24

Christina!!! sorry has to be Christina Grin

love meredith btw!

out what you have listed I like tess and callie best. just not the full me sorry.

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 16:44

Thanks for your thoughts smug some good points in there.

I know its fashionable to give what I feel are baby names as a given name, like Penny/tess/lottie, on their own but that is definitely not for us. we want a 'grown up name' with shortening options.

Judith and Meredith???? sorry, no way, hate 'matching' names.

Have I missed a connection somewhere between Christina and Meredith giles ?? not a style of name we like though.

we like our shortlist just struggling to pick from it. DH's faves are Charlotte and Penelope, mine are Therese and Caroline.

Love Penelope and Felicity. Very cute and go nicely with Meredith.

A couple that aren't on your list, that I think would go nicely, are:

Phillipa (Pippa)
Tabitha (Tabby)

Sunshine511 · 29/09/2015 17:01

Sorry, I've just read that your happy with your short list. (They are lovely names that you've come up with). Ignore my 2 suggestions Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/09/2015 17:04

I clicked on to suggest Penelope, so Penelope for me.

I like Felicity nn Flick or Fliss

What about Florence nn Flossie, Floss or Florrie?

genome · 29/09/2015 17:07

Not sure if you have watched Grey's Anatomy or maybe it's intentional but lead character is Meredith and her sister is Lexi...Christina is another character.
Alexandra is lovely though. I also like Felicity from your list.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 29/09/2015 17:08

Definitely not Phillipa (or anything similar) or they will end up being called Merry and Pippin!

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 17:10

genome no I've never watched Greys...is it such an obvious link that I should write off Alexandra?!

My name actually quite tempted by merry and pippin!! Blush think DH will happily veto it though!!

OP posts:
overthemill · 29/09/2015 17:12

Lexi obviously.

genome · 29/09/2015 17:20

I wouldn't rule out Alexandra, but it if you use the nickname Lexi I would think somebody will make the connection, so it depends how you feel about that. I think the show is unlikely to be popular with their peers so the connection would only really be made by other adults who have a similar dreadful taste to me in medical melodrama!

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 17:32

DH is keener on Alex than Lexi anyway so it might still be a contender!!

You have two of my favourite names up there, Caroline and Therese. I think I prefer Caroline a little more.

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/09/2015 17:51

Interesting that those people who like Therese also like Caroline - I don't see why those two names should be connected. But they are my two favourites too.

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 18:13

you're right cake they are not obvious choices to be on the same list really!

looks like I'm winning so far! Grin

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 29/09/2015 18:22

callie is also a greys anatomy character btw Grin

although it's short fir calliope not Caroline so you would get away with that one

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 18:26

seriously?? clearly I should look up the character list for more ideas!! Grin I'm more of an ER fan myself though!

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 29/09/2015 18:31
Grin

you weren't thinking of Addison, miranda or arizona amelia or Maggie were you?

oh and Alex was also a character (but male) Grin

good choice with ER. Susan? halle, abby? Sam?

Wink
ashesandfire · 29/09/2015 18:40

I love Eloise, Felicity and Caroline.

ashesandfire · 29/09/2015 18:41

There are squillions of Ellies though. Merry and Fliss is a cute combo :)

5madthings · 29/09/2015 18:45

We had meredith on our list for dd, she is actually a Merryn and we call her merry sometimes.

Felicity, penelope and Addison were on my list as well but dh doesn't like them.

I still like them, we also had genevive on the list to be shortened to vi vi.

I am a fan of greys! And er.

I still like meredith but can't have that with a Merryn...

I like juniper /juno we are really struggling for girls names, sorted for a boy though.
