Choosing a name is hell

Ok, perhaps a slight overreaction, but I am finding it so hard to come up with a name for our impending arrival. My dh and I cannot agree. I suggest, he vetoes, he does not suggest.

Anyway, we already have a ds, Milo. We don't know whether this next one is a boy or girl. Currently 29 weeks.

The current frontrunners (not that we're overly ecstatic about any of them!) are...

Boys:

Jed
Hal (maybe - but rhymes with the name of a kid I used to teach and colleagues would be shaking their heads in disbelief that I could give my child a name so closely associated to this particular kid).

We're very stuck for boys' names, as you can see. Any suggestions? We don't want anything popular.

Girls:

In??s
Lois
Merryn (dh vetoes)
Ramona (vetoed by himself)
Estelle (you can guess!)
Camille (love, but put off this because it's the name of a local takeaway)

Please give other suggestions. Sorry for long post.

Still not working. Ines with an accent grave on the e!

Oh I feel your pain, OP. I'm only 16 weeks but having a similar problem - we have Merryn on our girls' list but nothing we really love for a boy. We quite like Alexander and Barnaby, but aren't crazy about them.

A few others we've discussed and discounted, for one reason or another, that you might like:

Louis
Corin
Auden
Rowan
Theodore
Isaac
Isaiah

Cecilia
Orla
Delphine
Althea

I like Lois very much, it's incredibly elegant. But I think with Milo, you have too many "lo" sounds going on.

Ramona is fabulous.

Boys names are hard I agree. i do like Jed, but mainly because I am a huge West Wing fan.

It's too hard! We've already got 2 DS and thought we were having a DD from our 20 week scan and managed over the last 7 weeks to come up with a girls name plus two middle names that we both agree on and like/love. However at our latest scan it now seems DD is actually another DS! Names were hard enough for DS2 God only knows what we'll come up with for this one. At least we have some notice to start thinking again...

And grrr that I can't now use my perfect girls name

Ficidy · 13/09/2015 07:49

Oh no, hinkyhonk, that's a killer! The same thing happened to my friend. It's a real pain.

Some great suggestions above. I like Ned. I'll say it to dh. Corin is lovely, but wouldn't go with our surname. For girls, I also love Corinne, but same problem unfortunately.

I'll have no hair left by the time I get to the end of this pregnancy. Enough of it is already falling out due to hormones, let alone from me tearing it out from frustration. I used to always think it'd be fun naming my babies... Ah hahaha how I laugh at my naivety.

Hinkyhonk that's SO frustrating!! ...but can you please tell us your perfect girl's name, in case it's perfect for one of us?! (Selfish...;))

That's actually one reason why I'm not sure whether we'll find out the sex (we didn't last time) - I'd be so annoyed if they got it wrong

OP, another couple for you:

Edwin
Willis

I love Ramona, btw.

hinkyhonk · 13/09/2015 08:19

Sorry too emotionally attached to my girls name to part with it for a bit - give me a week or so and I'll come back!

How about having my DS2's name - Farley. There were only 9 born in the year he was so ticks the unusual biz although i know it's not for everyone, it really does suit him.

Laquila · 13/09/2015 08:22

Haha I do undestand, Hinky!

How funny - I was looking at the ONS stats last night for 2014 and noticed Farley (there were very few). I think it's lovely.

OP, do you like Cassian? My husband just suggested we put it on list (much to my amazement) and I think it's growing on me - interested to hear what anyone else thinks too?

cth1982 · 14/09/2015 14:08

I know the feeling - every name I have suggested my husband has said no to and the only single name he has suggested I hate so we're not getting very far - I have thrown the towel in today and said I'm clearing the decks and not thinking of a name until the baby comes now (we don't know what we are having) - at least then we have 40 odd days to make a decision based on what he or she looks like!

Gummibaers · 14/09/2015 14:10

Love Estelle for a girl.

And how about Cassius, Quentin or Darius for a boy?
