I do think it sounds like a joke on Lois Lane, and not in a good way (sorry).

Finola1step · 09/09/2015 19:16

Lois Lane, sorry

Jw35 · 09/09/2015 19:17

I love Lois! gorgeous name!

hattyhatter · 09/09/2015 19:18

I wouldn't TBH

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/09/2015 19:20

I wouldn't either.

Hiddlesnake · 09/09/2015 19:20

Kane is quite masculine (I've taught a few Kane/Kaine/Caine's and they were never the best behaved of chaps) so I don't think it really goes with Lois.

Kcooper26 · 09/09/2015 19:21

Whats the reason tho?
I only know about lois lane cause of mums net telling me otherwise i wouldnt. Is lois lane a bad character? What was she like? Why is it soooo bad to use?

Hiddlesnake Kane is the surname not a middle name

Girlfriend36 · 09/09/2015 19:22

Yes it sounds ridiculous because of it!!

hattyhatter · 09/09/2015 19:45

She's a cartoon character. A sidekick.

Hiddlesnake · 09/09/2015 19:46

Ah, sorry! blush My mistake. You never can tell with middle names this days!

Lois Lane is Clarke Kent's girlfriend. She's a good strong character, a tenacious journalist.

I did once meet a small girl who had the misfortune to be named Indiana Janes. Her parents thought it was a great lark. I fear that as Indiana grows up she may grow tired of the Harrison Ford jokes. Lois Kane will get a lot of Superman references directed at her I suspect.

hattyhatter · 09/09/2015 19:46

She stays at home/ in the office and wonders where Superman is. Sometimes she gets rescued.

She does a bit of newspaper reporting too, TBF.

hattyhatter · 09/09/2015 19:49

X post Grin

She's really not my idea of a 21st century rle model for a woman. Feisty for her era, I admit, but that was a long time ago.

OctoberCupcake · 09/09/2015 19:51

What would you initial reaction be at meeting someone called James Lond or Harry Cotter?

It's the same; it sounds like a deliberate parody of Lois Lane (like the cartoon with the frog spy, James Pond, in fact).

Sorry, Lois is lovely name but not with that surname.

Cookingongas · 09/09/2015 20:17

I've never seen superman and wasn't born when it was popularised on TV- but I know who Louis lane is and would think it unfair to burden a child, an adult even with a name that is guaranteed to get repetitive boring jokes aimed at it. God help if lois Kane ever worked in a call centre or telephony- I know a tom jones who quit his job and changed his name because of the constant jokes.

triathlon · 09/09/2015 20:52

Everyone will think they're being original when they say "Lois Lane", even though they're the 57th person that day. Best avoided, I think.

Kcooper26 · 09/09/2015 22:22

Id never heard of her im 24. I dont no its that popular as indiana janes or tom jones tho? I really dont see the big deal i love the name & feel like i cant use it just cause thats the second name.

I feel if i have a girl &
Dont name her Lois ill really really regret it cause ive always loved ot

Sophronia · 09/09/2015 23:07

I'm 25 and Lois Lane was my first thought. I agree that it's best avoided.

triathlon · 10/09/2015 09:30

Do you like other L names... Louisa Kane, Lara Kane, Laura Kane?

OneBreathAfterAnother · 10/09/2015 09:40

I'm 25 and Lois Lane was my first thought, too. I think it's wishful thinking that it wouldn't affect her, unfortunately.

ClashCityRocker · 10/09/2015 09:46

28 and lois lane was my first thought.

To me, it sounds like you've got a super geek husband who thought it would be witty to have a name so similar to lois lane and who is quite smug about having got it past you.

It sounds like a punchline to a joke - where does superman get his sugar from? Lois Kane!

MamaLazarou · 10/09/2015 09:57

I like it. But I've seen Lois mentioned on here an awful lot lately. It may be in danger of becoming the next Evie.

DiscoDiva70 · 10/09/2015 10:14

Op, you may love the name but I think it's a bit strong to say you'd regret it if you didn't use it.
Surely you must realise that your dd would be teased if you gave her this name, and therefore just tick it off the list without giving it a second thought?

After all, there's hundreds of names to choose from!

reuset · 10/09/2015 10:16

I can't believe you'd never heard of the character.

Not bad character, just sounds like a joke. Problematic? Your call.

juneau · 10/09/2015 10:22

Do you want a name for your DD that will always invite the same tedious comment? I wouldn't. For the same reason I'd avoid Michael if you have a boy (Michael Caine, well known actor, in case you didn't know that either).
