Am due next week and am having a real dilemma over a girls name.. I love Willow and have done for some time, but worry about the doot not being particularly willowy! Also love Francesca, but am not sure if it's too strong a name and not girly enough for me.. What do I do???!! OH prefers Francesca.

Francesca by a country mile. Willow is faddy and will date in about 3 seconds...

Another vote for Francesca. I have never been keen on Willow personally.

Hopesicles · 03/11/2015 00:11

Francesca x

Asteria36 · 03/11/2015 00:20

Francesca shortens to Fran, Frankie, Frannie, Cesca. One of my favourite people is a Fran. Willow is sweet but all I can think of is the Film. Also there will be little shits when she gets to school who will call her Willy, relentlessly. Francesca Willow is very pretty though.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 03/11/2015 00:49

Francesca. I know 4 willows under 5! Francesca is classic and timeless. Willow is very now and will date.

LeaLeander · 03/11/2015 01:45

Francesca no doubt.

Willow sounds like vapid morning TV presenter

Binkybix · 03/11/2015 07:47

I like both, prefer Francesca. I like Chessie as a nn.

And this thread is 2 months old....I doubt op is still waiting to have the baby Grin

cefn33 · 03/11/2015 08:37

No... Baby is here! And it was a boy - crisis averted!! Thanks for all the help everyone.

I really like both. I think Francesca is more classic whereas Willow is a bit 'now' and I would share your concerns about her not being 'willowy'! But one thing to consider is whether you like the inevitable nicknames that Francesca would bring. I like Chess or Chessie or Cesca but not so keen on Fran/Frankie/Frannie for example

Congrats OP! Flowers

My sister is called Francesca (27 years old) and the only one I have ever met. Great name, especially as names like Florence have become so popular. Nickname could be Chesca when she is little. I really like Willow too but it is a bit dog like (however, that is only because my friend has a dog named Willow)!

celtictoast · 04/11/2015 10:53

Congratulations!

reuset · 04/11/2015 12:28

Hooray for Francesca. Willow pales by comparison, too trendy and now. Not a bit hippy. I hope if I posted earlier I said that. Grin

reuset · 04/11/2015 12:32

Oops, I thought you went with Francesca for some reason, possibly on seeing more praise for the name, and just not reading properly Hmm Sorry. Congratulations on your baby boy. Frances?

NerrSnerr · 04/11/2015 12:40

I love Francesca. It will be on our list if we have a second girl.

Elbelle6 · 04/11/2015 13:19

Francesca. It's classy, timeless, can be shortened to Frankie, or Cesca.

I know a Willow, she was teased at school and felt it stopped her getting jobs when she left because of its flaky connotations. She changed her name in the end.

Willow screams yoghurt weaving, hippy drop out - and will inevitably be seen as flaky by teachers. Save it for the cat :)

SoftBlocks · 04/11/2015 13:23

Very different vibes, both very nice, perhaps Francesca has a bit more gravitas?

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 04/11/2015 14:01

Willow is gorgeous. Fran is such a harsh sounding nickname. Plus I knew a reeeeally annoying Fran. Grin

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 04/11/2015 14:02

Oh sorry! Must RTFT! Congrats on your little boy Smile
