Hi all

Desperately need help with a name for our first baby. Our final list consists of Ryan, Liam and Aidan (DH half Irish). The problem is our surname (Axon). We love Aidan but it doesnt sound great with the surname. Ryan and Liam sound a bit better but we dont like them as much as Aidan. Any advice? Is Aidan a definite no? Do you have any preferences among these 3 names? Confused

Aidan
Ryan and Liam are awful.

MrsChu, it surprised me too, but it's not just a Mn thing, as I have also once or twice encountered the same anti-Liam feelings in England in RL. I'm not sure precisely why, but there's definitely more suspicion towards /less enthusiasm for Irish boys' names than girls', with Niamh (and bloody 'Neve'/'Neeve' etc), Aoife, Saoirse and the like regularly attracting positive comments.

Aidan. Not a fan of Ryan and Liam

Thank you everyone! I feel a lot more confident about Aidan now, even though DH planted a seed of doubt yesterday saying "but will it not be associated with all the jayden/brayden stuff?!" Well, I know it sounds similar but it's a completely different type of name. Any ideas for a strong argument on this one? Something that would get these thoughts out of his head..?

I would be stunned if anyone thought Aidan was of the same ilk as Jayden or Brayden... Aidan is an established name with a long history whereas the other two names were made up about 5 minutes ago (sorry to be so severe!).

I think Aidan is the most beautiful name, the one I know has never had anyone associate it with the rhyming names you mention - I think those are usually spelt with a y or an e but anyway just have a totally different feel.

Aiden is lovely, was on shortlist for DS and I'd never associate it with Jayden, Kayden etc.

Quite shocked there's such a feeling about Liam, never been a problem here (Glasgow) and I think it's a nice name.

Not a fan of Ryan, only know a bad one which puts me off and too similar to DH name!

I like Aidan the best out of those three and I think it goes fine with your surname to be honest.
