Fourth child. All other siblings have two syllable names that are not top 20 but not too outlandish. We want something similar for our fourth. Here is our shortlist:

Zoe
Beatrice (Bea)
Georgia
Nina
Thea
Matilda (Tilda)

Not a fan of Beatrice and Matilda personally. I like all the others but really love Nina. I wasn't allowed to use it myself but really wanted to!

Sophronia · 02/09/2015 13:20

Nina or Zoe.

Daphnedolittle · 02/09/2015 13:43

I like Thea and Matilda.

3rdSymphony · 02/09/2015 13:44

Nina or Thea.

SummerMonths · 02/09/2015 14:11

I really like Nina and Thea but I worry they are less complete names than the others. They sort of sound like abbreviations to me. The other names stand more as a whole but I think I like them less.

Nina!

StandoutMop · 02/09/2015 14:16

Thea was my no. 1 choice for dd3, but veteod by DH. I am still mourning and rebelling by calling dd3 by a nickname which bears little resemblance to DH's chosen name for her.

Also like Matilda. Not so keen on Zoe, Nina or Georgia but more to do with having disliked people called that, not the names themselves.

fairyfeatures · 02/09/2015 14:41

Thea - which is actually my 1st choice on my own shortlist.

Sorry to hijack but Summermonths - do you think Thea is short for Theadora only? Do you think that anyone would class it as a short name for Elizabeth?

SummerMonths · 02/09/2015 15:37

Fairy - I guess it could be short for Theodora, Dorothea, Anthea or Althea. It would be unexpected as a shorting of Elizabeth but you could give it a go.

Nina and Zoe are lovely. Georgia is nice. Don't like Beatrice at all.

SmugairleRoin · 02/09/2015 17:21

Don't like Beatrice.
Matilda is ok but I think may become popular, if you don't want that.
If Thea doesn't get pronounced like Fear in your accent it's ok. Still a bit meh on it.
Zoe is alright...

Nina and Georgia are my faves from your list.

LatinForTelly · 02/09/2015 17:28

Zoe or Thea, but I like Nina too. Not Tilda - rice.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 02/09/2015 17:31

I love Beatrice. Bea is lovely. I also like Zoe and Nina but my preference is definitely with Bea :)

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 02/09/2015 17:37

I like Georgia and Nina. Not a fan of the rest, sorry

CakeRattleandRoll · 02/09/2015 18:04

Love Nina. It would have been on shortlist for DD, but sounds too close to what DS calls fire engines (nee-nahs)!
Really like Zoe too.

triathlon · 02/09/2015 18:13

I like Beatrice (Bea), Georgia and Nina.

Helenluvsrob · 02/09/2015 18:15

Thea. Not short for anything , just Thea Wink

pilates · 02/09/2015 18:23

Matilda is nice.

SummerMonths · 02/09/2015 19:55

Thanks all. Not a lot of consensus so far! Its so hard, I just knew with the other kids.

Matilda and Zoe are best from your list.

SummerMonths · 03/09/2015 00:12

What if I shorten the list further to Thea, Nina and Zoe? I think those are top contenders.

I strongly dislike Nina. Mainly because it's a siren noise. I think Nina & The Neurons put the final nail in the coffin on that one too!

Beatrice & Matilda are too fussy for me, sorry. Although I do really like Bea & Tilda/Tilly, but I couldn't personally use either as wouldn't want the full version of the name.

Zoe, Georgia & Thea are lovely however Grin.

If it were me choosing from your list I'd probably go with Thea. Or Zoe. But probably Thea.

StevieJo · 03/09/2015 03:55

I love Beatrice (Tris or Trista) also love Matilda (Tilda is adorable)

SummerMonths · 03/09/2015 06:25

I couple of people have mentioned Nina and the Nerons as a negative. I don't see it as a negative as (a) it's a little known kids prog that few people know about and (b) she's a female scientist whose children in my book is a good role model rather than an association to avoid.

SmugairleRoin · 03/09/2015 09:37

From your shortened list I'd be saying

  1. Nina
  2. Zoe
  3. Thea

Nina and the neurons wouldn't put me off - Ben10 was huge and people still called their children Ben/Benjamin/Benedict.
