Elizabeth Rose (nn Eliza)

I've always felt (in a crazy lady way) that this baby was a girl and that her name was Eliza. Dh doesn't mind Eliza but doesn't love it and we have compromised on Elizabeth with Rose as a middle name. Dh prefers Poppy for a first name or Lily but although pretty they are both very popular at the moment.

What do people think of Elizabeth Rose - although she will be called Eliza? I guess it gives her a choice of names when she's older!

Love it.

I think it's a beautiful name. And I like Eliza too. Smile

Spookily, a while ago I had a dream that I had a little girl and her name was Elizabeth Rose. She was wearing a red coat and beret.

Beautiful, timeless and classy.

I know there are lots of Poppies about, but I think it's a child's name not an adults IYSWIM.

If your DH likes Poppy and Lily, you could call her Lizzie for short (channelling Pride and Prejudice here)

Love it. Eliza was on my list of girl's names.
Brilliant compromise to give her the full name Elizabeth.

???? I guess she might get called Lizzie even if we originally shorten to Eliza. I just love the name Eliza really!

I agree re poppy, although there will be lots of grown up women with the name poppy in the years to come so maybe then it might seem more of an adult's name too?

That should have been a Smile

Lots of similarly styled names to Poppy and Lily, they wouldn't stand out at all as adults. But they more likely to date quickly. Elizabeth far preferable, Eliza is ok but I'm lukewarm about it as a stand alone name (even though it is very popular at the moment)

HeadDreamer · 02/09/2015 09:48

I think Poppy and Lily will be fine when they are grown ups. It will be completely normal. It's just like Tracy or Jo.

It's not like younique spelling names.

HeadDreamer · 02/09/2015 09:49

But Elizabeth is lovely.

fleurdelacourt · 02/09/2015 11:13

Elizabeth is lovely. But - if she's going to be known as Eliza then call her that - it's a different name, not just a nickname. If she's called Elizabeth, she will have a lifetime of explaining why she uses a different name.

Sophronia · 02/09/2015 11:35

I agree that if she's going to be known as Eliza I'd just use that, otherwise she might get lots of other nns like Liz/Lizzie, Beth etc.

MadGrumblyGnome · 02/09/2015 11:43

I like using the full name as a Sunday name, it gives her options when she's older what she does with it. Eliza is a great name.

And like pp, I think Elizabeth Rose is beautiful and classic.
