Where are all the Florences?

Top of our list at the moment, but has got super populate- up in the 20s for top 100 names and has shot up the list over 100 places in the last few years. Heard of a couple little Florences, but through schools, nurseries playgroups etc have only met a handful. Asked a midwife this week and she has delivered very few. We are in London, thought it would be a hotbed of Florences. Those of you who claim to know loads, where do these babies and toddlers live?! What sort of name is it? Apart from fairly popular?

I know one 10 year old Florence but I am in a similar profession to the midwife you spoke to and have not come across one Florence in 4 years in the South East. I think the most frequent name I come across is Amelie.

PamPoovey · 28/08/2015 00:06

I don't know a single one.

It's a gorgeous name with lovely nicknames.

mrstweefromtweesville · 28/08/2015 00:10

Perfectly acceptable, even if her brother is named Zebedee.

LittleErin · 28/08/2015 09:01

I know seven under 5. It is the name that I know the most children with. South East, not London!

BabyLadyGirl · 28/08/2015 10:03

Know of tonnes. I'm in London.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 28/08/2015 10:09

Lmf679 · 28/08/2015 11:37

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/08/2015 11:39

I know a 3 yr old and a 6 yr old Florence. Lovely name!

susurration · 28/08/2015 12:29

I know one Florence, nn Effie, in west midlands.

looki · 28/08/2015 15:50

Effie is one of the nicer nicknames. I never heard it as a nickname for Florence before.

I really dislike Flo, Florrie, Flossie. They sound like names for dogs!

I know two children called Florence - both under 4.

scatterthenuns · 30/08/2015 12:50

The only one I know is 78.

CelestiaLuna · 31/08/2015 15:46

I know 3

Am in South East

Swishyswashy · 31/08/2015 15:48

Hmmm, thanks. So it seems mostly in the South East, but maybe outside London. Or maybe that's where all the posters in baby names live! Thanks all. Still love it, it's worried it may be the new Olivia/ Amelia.

NauseousKitty · 01/09/2015 22:09

Yorkshire here. I know four in my antenatal class from 2014 - same small town, going to be in the same class!

NapoleonsNose · 01/09/2015 22:14

I know three. One is 20, another 18 and the last is 1.

TillyTolly · 02/09/2015 18:57

I know 3 in London: a 4 year old and two 18 month olds.

ARV1981 · 03/09/2015 01:52

I love the name florence, but don't like many of the nn for it.

Dh hates it, so not using it.

It was my great grandmother's name.

I think these names are coming back as people name their baby's after family members - usually grandparents or great grandparents.

Redglitter · 03/09/2015 02:11

When my mum was in hospital for a long period of time while pregnant with my brother - now 42 - I told everyone my name was Florence. Soon everyone was calling me it. My dad ended up buying me a brooch with my actual name on it

ComingRoundTheMountain · 03/09/2015 19:46

I know 1. East Anglia

KLou1105 · 05/09/2015 21:50
