So we found out we're having a daughter Smile

We both like Esmé and Élodie and will probably decide after meeting her. So looking at middle names I would like a Turkish/Persian name due to my roots. Father is French creole so surname will be double barrelled French.

Esmé/Élodie Dilara
Esmé/Élodie Leyla
Esmé/Élodie Seren

Any thoughts?

Élodie Seren

I didn't know Dilara was Persian (not heard the name before) but of the three it is the more unusual (here in UK) and the only one I would assume linked to a non-UK culture.

I do love Seren but I would have assumed you were Welsh rather than Turkish/Persian. Perhaps it is more well known in the UK as a Welsh name which I guess might be a problem if you want it to honour your roots? I have known a few Leyla's, all British with no non-UK roots so again not obviously Petsisn iyswim.

All three are pretty names though and I love Elodie and Esme too.

Dilara is Turkish, meaning beloved I think.

You're right about Seren, it would be thought of as welsh more.

Leyla means dark night. I like them all tbh!

Elodie Leyla is lovely.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 22/08/2015 11:52

Esme Seren.

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2015 12:07

I think Dilara goes best with Esme, & Leyla with Elodie. Seren is more familiar to me as a Welsh name. All are beautiful names.

Hey Fuggs! waves

Love Elodie, especially with the French creole surname.

From your list of middle names, I really like Leyla. I know a Turkish lady called Leyla.

My DH is North African, so I know there are a few similar names. What about...

Ayla/ Aya
Naila/ Nayla
Samira
Yasmin
Smile

Fugghetaboutit · 22/08/2015 12:17

Thanks for replies!

I do love Leyla a lot.

Hi sherbert :) I love Nayla, will see what H thinks. Also like Nahla.
Ayla is a friends child's name but I do like it. Aylin is nice too.

Esmé Dilara, or Esmé Leyla. Agree with PP that assumption will be that Seren is Welsh (/trendy) rather than a nod to your culture. I prefer Esmé to Élodie in the UK, because all of the Élodies I know here (even the 2 with a French parent) end up with the "Eh-lodie" pronounciation, which is not nearly as pretty.

Fugghetaboutit · 22/08/2015 19:27

I am leaning more towards Esmé because it was the name me and H first agreed on and kept coming back to.

I'm just worried Leyla is also a v 'girly/pretty' name and wanted a stronger middle name. I'm just not sure.
