Hugo?

DH has suggested this for our baby boy, due in January. I think I like it, which makes it one of the very rare boys names that we both seem to like! My question is, is it still considered a "posh" name? I noticed it's in the top 100 so am thinking it must be becoming more commonplace, although I don't personally know any little Hugos locally. I know these things shouldn't matter but we are not posh in the slightest, live in the rural East Midlands, and don't want people to think we are being pretentious! DS1 is William, and we also had a baby lost at 21 weeks last year, who we called Alex. I think Will and Hugo sound pretty good together. Any thoughts?

I love baby name threads so am here for the duration lol. (frustrated as want loads more babies but too old).

Hugo is awesome. I think it's cool rather than posh now iyswim?

I know a Hugo, because he is not English I had forgotten it was a posh name! I really like the name.

SpanielFace · 19/08/2015 20:40

Thanks. We are not very cool, either! Grin Some names that seemed super posh when I was younger and everyone I knew was called Sarah, Claire, Chris or Mark - so names like Poppy, Florence, Archie, Oscar - seem very normal these days! It's hard to know. And I know it shouldn't matter! I think we might have a serious contender though. Smile

Ooh Hugo is my name for a ds too!!

I love it, don't think it's too faddy, I would say it did have a slight 'posh' stereotype but is that really a bad thing?

It's a lovely name for a tiny baby to a middle age man :)

peppapigonaloop · 19/08/2015 21:44

I have a Hugo and love it obviously! There are a couple of others near us but it doesn't seem to be crazy popular and I don't think it's seen as hugely posh nowadays..go for it it's a fab name (totally biased obvs)

I love the name Hugo. Have wanted it since early pregnancy with DS1 and now 27 weeks with DS2 and hoping I get my way. Not posh just perfect =)

helentheheron · 19/08/2015 23:24

Definitely posh.

Thatsnotmybabyname · 20/08/2015 13:25

I don't see this name as posh at all, I see it more trendy than posh.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 20/08/2015 13:30

I've just commented on another thread that I think it's a bit of a posh name! As I said there, that's more my perception of it and not a negative assertion. I suspect it is probably becoming more mainstream now, but I don't know any IRL can't be posh then

CarlaJones · 20/08/2015 16:25

It does seem posh to me and it's not my cup of tea, but that doesn't matter. It gets mentioned a lot on this board so a lot of people must like it.

Hackersschmakers · 20/08/2015 16:50

It was going to be one of twins' names but they both turned out to be girls! I love it, was a little worried about people thinking we were being pretentious, but then thought stuff it!
