A brother for Elizabeth...

My husband and I prefer classic strong names. We really like a lot of English names, but since we are of Russian origin, can't use a lot of them, as it would sound either too odd with our surname or difficult/"too foreign" for grandparents/relatives.

So, the name has to:

  • work well both in English and Russian
  • be well liked in UK, as we've been living here for a long time and plan to raise our children here
  • work well with his elder sister's name - Elizabeth (it's a bit tricky, as a lot of the names sound to "royal" when combined).

Below is our list of names, please give me you honest opinion, favourites, criticism and ideas:

  • Daniel
  • Andrew
  • William
  • Edward
  • Theodore
  • Jacob
  • Arthur
  • Benjamin
  • Frederick
  • George
  • Thomas
  • Charles
  • Leo
  • James
  • Matthew
  • Timothy
  • Alfred
  • Mark

Many thanks in advance!!! :)

William or Benjamin, both lovely and classic.

NotAllThoseWhoWanderAreLost · 16/08/2015 19:34

I like pretty much all of those, we have similar taste! Daniel, Andrew, Thomas, William and James are my favourites and I think all sound nice with Elizabeth. What about Alexander too?

LineyRunner · 16/08/2015 19:36

Like that list.

Robert
Richard

Alexander works well in both English & Russian

Whichonetochoose · 16/08/2015 19:37

Alexander is also lovely, but can't use as my nephew is Alexander.

Adore George Frederick William Arthur

What about Wilfred

Capewrath · 16/08/2015 19:52

Assume Nicholas and Peter too royal, but what about Paul? I like all the ones you have chose.

Ivan is now quite usual.

William
Edward

I've no idea how it works in Russian, but how about John. I think it is fairly uncommon these days but very strong and goes nicely with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth and Andrew sound lovely together

There isn't a single name on that list that I don't like or don't think would sound quite good with Elizabeth, however I think my favourite choices for you would be:

(from your list) William, Theodore, Arthur, Benjamin, Frederick, Thomas, James, Matthew

(and other suggestions) Richard, Robert, John, Adam, Stephen, Nicholas, Henry, Benedict, Tobias, Luke/Lucas
