Is your instant though a boy or a girl? I love names that fit both but DP is going off this one....

Boy (only because it's my nephews name)

horsewalksintoabar · 08/08/2015 09:03

I love the name for a boy. I wouldn't call a girl Jude though because it's so obviously not a name for both genders. Jude was an Apostle and so it's a male Biblical name. He is the patron saint of Hope, which is beautiful. It really is a lovely name.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/08/2015 09:05

Girl is my first thought as the only Jude I know is female (short for Judith).

AngryBeaver · 08/08/2015 09:05

Boy. Irish catholic DH has an uncle Jude. He wouldn't consider it for any of ours because of this. But, also my accent makes the name sound dreadful!
Jooooooooooood! Confused

AngryBeaver · 08/08/2015 09:05

Ps I really like the name! Grin

pickwickcrocus · 08/08/2015 09:08

Boy. Love it, would used if for ds if we could have but sadly it didn't go with our surname (too rhymey).

ilovelamp82 · 08/08/2015 09:09

Boy. And love it.

TopCivilServant · 08/08/2015 09:10

Boy. (But I know a girl called Jude)

MamaLazarou · 08/08/2015 09:12

Boy. There has been a recent and extensive discussion on this name.

Junosmum · 08/08/2015 12:07

Boy, unless it's a nn for Judith or similar. I love it, as a boys name and as a nn.

morall · 08/08/2015 12:11

Boy, unless it is a nickname

Siennasun · 08/08/2015 15:31

It's become quite a common name for little boys over the last 5-10 years. I work with kids and have known a few little Jude's, mostly boys but occasional girls.
All Jude's I've ever known born before 2000s are exclusively female. I would say it definitely is a name that fits both genders.

Bythedowns2 · 08/08/2015 17:03

I love Jude for a boy!

flyingsprocket · 10/08/2015 07:28

Thanks! I was considering it for a girl, I only know two Jude's who are both female. I think it's now scratched off the list. Most of my favourite names are ones that can be used for both but I think this is too masculine.

I have a female friend called Jude and have taught a boy Jude too. I love it for either Smile

DevonFolk · 10/08/2015 07:32

Why is it off the list now?

ScorpioMermaid · 10/08/2015 07:34

Most definitely BOY.
I love it. I have 5 boys and wanted it for the last 2, DH vetoed it though Sad

Yourface · 10/08/2015 07:39

Wow! Can't believe so many people view it as exclusively male. It's my name (short for Judith...which I hate). Never occurred to me that more people would see it has a boy's name than a girl's!! I actually love it for a boy but it also has some grim connotations if you think of Jude The Obscure!

pretend · 10/08/2015 07:42

Love - my first reaction is boy, but I like it for a girl too.

sweetpeame · 10/08/2015 08:37

Hate it, it's a very ugly sounding name IMO. I know a male and a female Jude but in my head it's a male name.

Blushingm · 19/08/2015 10:54

Boy - my brother

He was also patron saint of lost causes and difficult cases

Also Jude the Obscure

Blushingm · 19/08/2015 10:55

But it does rhyme with Pooed - sorry

JudgeJudySheindlin · 19/08/2015 13:09

I think Jude is a fabulous name. Prefer it for a boy but its a name that would easily suit a girl too.

Sophronia · 19/08/2015 14:26

The only one I know is a woman in her fifties, short for Judith.
