Maison (Mason) and other names with spellings you may not expect?

Just got a party invite from one of DS' fellow mindees. I also knew his name is Mason but it turns out that they spell it Maison. I thought it may be a typo but I checked with the CM and she said that's how it's spelled. Probably is especially odd for me as I'm part French, so to be, it reads as 'house' in French. I know the nameMason probably has construction origins too but I do wonder if people unknowingly mis-spell names or whether they are just trying to be 'different'. Either way, he's going to spenf a lifetime correcting the spelling of that one.
Anyone else got other examples of strangely spelled names?
I also know a Camron.....

I knew a Channel, pronounced Chanel like the perfume. I always thought Tunnel.

AssembleTheMinions · 07/08/2015 20:27

I know a Lilliee. Awful spelling imho

LavenderLeigh · 07/08/2015 20:28

I'd pronounce Maison totally differently from Mason!
But them I can't see how Jaime (which is Spanish and pronounced Hay-me) gets transformed in Jamie.

I know a Murfee. His family always use unique spellings, going back a few generations now. There's a Mylea, an Emmerlee and a Cayte in the family too.

On baby face mums (channel 5 show ) the little boy was named Seannyy.

vixx, that's just a waste of ink Grin

LOL some of these are hilarious! But then I'm a name snob Blush

Skallett? Siobhan = Show-bin. WTAF??

I used to work with a TrayC (yup, pron. Tracy).
Maison to me is 'house' too.

I think the worst ones I know of now are Kayden and Kylan (not brothers, just both yuk names).

juneau · 07/08/2015 21:00

Channel! ROFLMAO

Only1scoop · 07/08/2015 21:01

Maison Confused
Was it a 'house' party?

juneau · 07/08/2015 21:02

Oh yes, just remembered another one.

Guy who worked at the supermarket where DH and I always shopped called Jiovany (Giovanni). DH, as a piss-take, asked him if he was Italian and the guy just looked at him blankly Grin

mummy0bummy · 08/08/2015 09:48

I used to know a Kelleigh, which is not bad compared to most of the names above!
DC1 is at school with a Jaynae pronounced Jayden, have never been able to figure that one out HmmConfused

StevieJo · 08/08/2015 10:41

Indii-Annah....Yep....

kittylh · 08/08/2015 12:44

I've known a Lorran (Lauren) and I've seen a Dakota-Emerleigh on facebook.

TwinkieTwinkle · 11/08/2015 16:08

Klohe. Chloe. I just... No.

HopOnTheMonnerBus · 11/08/2015 16:49

A girl in DS's year at school is Jordyn. I once made the mistake of pronouncing it Jor-din. Her mum glared at me and told me in no uncertain terms "it's Jord-un, like Jordan but prettier"

Lightbulbon · 11/08/2015 17:31

Ailie which is a lazy phonetic/anglicised version of Eilidh.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 12/08/2015 13:52

"Maison" is not even remotely like "Mason" !!

I hope they are prepared for a sizeable part of the population to call him "May-zon" for his whole life!

shitebag · 12/08/2015 14:04

Beatriss, Emmilee, Cassidee, Jason...

These are kids I've come across at work and been a bit miffed by.

Also worked with a Loauise pronounced Leisha which was apparently the Gaelic spelling Confused

TwinkieTwinkle · 12/08/2015 14:06

What's wrong with Jason?! Confused

shitebag · 12/08/2015 14:23

Oops Twinkie, autocorrect :o

Jaxon not Jason lol

annatha · 12/08/2015 17:14

Channel!!!

These parents are nobs. I've got a fairly standard English name that has two spellings and have spent most of my life spelling it out and receiving cards from close relatives and important documents with the incorrect spelling. These poor kids will have it even worse as their names aren't even real.

Cynara · 12/08/2015 17:31

I met a (child) Siobhan in the course of my work, wrote her name down on my paperwork and immediately got told off by her mum. Apparently I should have known to spell it Shivorn.....

CarlaJones · 12/08/2015 21:15

I used to work with someone called Siobhan - fair enough, but we weren't to call her Shuh-vaughn (ie the way it's pronounced), we were to call her SHOW-bin. Grin

CarlaJones · 12/08/2015 21:16

There was a Channel in our local newspaper.
