Sorry but Tate is either Tate Modern or Po-Tate-o to me

Wolfiefan · 04/08/2015 18:06

YY to Tate Modern!
No to name for a boy.

barbecue · 04/08/2015 18:11

I think of potatoes, sorry!

turdfairynomore · 04/08/2015 18:23

It's the name my friends daughter is still known by in.our family as my daughter couldn't say "Kate"! My DD is now 21 & "Tate" is nearly 30!

Fugghetaboutit · 04/08/2015 18:27

I imagine someone hot being called Tate, like a celeb. I was keen on it for ds1 too

heylilbunny · 04/08/2015 18:48

A unisex name to me but I don't have a strong feel for it either way. I don't dislike it but it doesn't have much of a cultural history as a name - unless you count Tate & Lyle Smile

VixxFace · 04/08/2015 19:12

I love the name Tate.

Alyx80 · 04/08/2015 20:51

I have a Tate so obviously love it!

reuset · 04/08/2015 21:04

Like a potato Grin Hot potato! Sorry Fugg

I don't like it at all, but it seems to have a pocket of likers on here, and the name has come up a few times recently

Ankleswingers · 04/08/2015 21:07

Don't like it at all. Sorry.

silverglitterpisser · 04/08/2015 21:19

Really like it. Wade is nice as well.

Didactylos · 04/08/2015 21:45

only if they have a twin called Lyle....

barbecue · 04/08/2015 22:45

Nathaniel (Nate) is a nice alternative.

SwedishEdith · 04/08/2015 22:51

I'm reading 'Prep' at the moment and everyone is called Hunter or Gates or something. Not a fan of the surname for first name but, at least, they give no indication of gender - which might be a good thing.

squoosh · 04/08/2015 22:59

Oh I loved Prep! What was the guy she fancied called, Crossley or something ridiculous like that?

SwedishEdith · 04/08/2015 23:04

Cross. Cross Sugarman Grin

squoosh · 04/08/2015 23:12

Cross that's it! And there's a girl called Aspeth.

squoosh · 04/08/2015 23:12

Sorry for the derail OP, I quite like Tate!

lastqueenofscotland · 04/08/2015 23:45

I thought if the gallery too, I like Nate though

Glindathegoodwitch · 06/08/2015 10:26

Beautiful name written down and I absolutely love it but spoken it sounds like somebody who cant pronounce their C's/K's.

I imagine if a child went home and told their parents about their friend 'Tate' - the parent would probably assume/correct them with 'Kate'

CruCru · 06/08/2015 12:28

Could you use Nathaniel and have Tate as a nickname?

MythicalKings · 06/08/2015 12:41

No, no, no.

Unless you are American, they like weird names.

Whatabout · 06/08/2015 12:44

With a brother called Lyle? Sorry, I'd smile politely if introduced but not my taste. But then I have weird boys names, I just don't care what anyone thinks so I'm being a hypocrite.

Travelling · 06/08/2015 20:15

I like Tate, but I would always think of the film Little Man Tate with the child genius.
