Archer, Archie or Lucas?

We're English and live in California, where our baby boy was born - his name is Archer Lucas (middle name Lucas).

However we'll be moving home to England when he is two and a half and now I'm a bit worried about how well the name will translate. Especially reading mumsnet!

Archer is kind of traditional and preppy in the U.S. It's also a family name for us and, as my family are Scots, I always liked the Scottish-ness of the nn Archie. But it sounds like the name Archer is seen as very 'trendy' in England? And Archie is now just chavy?

Should we stick with Archer when we move home, or go with Archie? - or use his middle name Lucas?

I don't want to burden the poor boy before he even starts nursery school!

What does he like to be called?

I like the name Archer and prefer it to Archie. Lucas is also a lovely name, but your son might be confused or upset by so much change (i.e. moving across the Atlantic and being called by a different name by strange new teachers, etc.)

Good grief, the child will be 2.5 when you move home, you simply cannot just change his name least of all just to "fit in" , even if it is just to a variation of his proper name.

I like Archer, I only know one whereas I know several little Archie's.

My cousin's gorgeous little bundle is Archie. It's not chavvy necessarily - you ca't be that prescriptive or judgemental. Archer is nice, he will get a nickname at school anyway. Good luck with the move.

Archer is fine, one of my former teachers has a DS named Archer (in the UK).

I have an Archer, I've yet to meet another and he gets lots of compliments on his name. No need to change it.

I'm not a fan but maybe it just doesn't translate to the UK. I think you have to stick with what you called him. If you love it that's what matters
