I like it, but it was my grandfather's name too.

Sophronia · 01/08/2015 12:04

I just hear "wrecks"

TheTigersComeAtNight · 01/08/2015 14:48

It's my son's name, but then my dog is called Thomas so clearly I'm the wrong way round! I love it. There is a family connection too but it suits my little boy down the the ground. Just pick a name you like op, stuff everybody else.

CakeRattleandRoll · 01/08/2015 15:56

I really like it.

I doubt any of your DS's friends will consider it a 'dog's name', their dogs will be called things like Charlie, Alfie and Oscar. www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2014/sep/16/from-poppy-to-sherlock-the-uks-most-popular-pet-names-cats-dogs Interesting that Poppy, Molly and Bella feature in the top 4 names for both dogs and cats, but nobody refers to them as pet's names when they come up on this forum.

RedToothBrush · 01/08/2015 16:30

Honestly?

I think that dogs names are everywhere at the moment. Every other little boy seems to have a name suitable for a dog.

So I don't think it being a dog's name is really much of a problem tbh.

sweetpeame · 01/08/2015 16:59

It's ridiculous. Aside from it being a name for a dog, it's way too try hard. Awful.

PurpleDaisies · 01/08/2015 17:07

Not a fan at all sorry. But if you and your partner love it does it really matter what a load of random strangers on the internet think? Good luck with your new arrival.

squoosh · 01/08/2015 17:52

Love it. Brilliant name.

Topsy34 · 01/08/2015 19:19

I like it! :)

TheoriginalLEM · 01/08/2015 19:37

Its a human name that became a dogs name. not like it's fido or patch!

sanfairyanne · 01/08/2015 19:40

there is definitely a trend for dogs names now, so it fits perfectly

squoosh · 01/08/2015 19:44

All the male dogs these days seem to be called Max, Charlie, or Jake.

And Fenton of course.

Ally1234 · 01/08/2015 19:46

I'm trying to picture Rex as head boy at school or as a CEO and nope sorry can't do. It's kinda cool and might be funky for a toddler but as a teen or adult no sorry it's horrible and defiantly screams more benefits Britain then the apprentice x

PlainHunting · 01/08/2015 19:52

My first thought is Bree's husband in Desperate Housewives.

squoosh · 01/08/2015 19:58

Strange. To me Rex sounds very Establishment.

I'd say it's more obstinate than defiant. Regally obstinate.

woody17 · 01/08/2015 20:27

Thank you for all the comments - it's definitely a name that's going to divide opinion!

Well if Rex is a dogs name them so is Sam, Charlie, Ben etc.

sanfairyanne · 01/08/2015 21:42

(tries again)

squoosh · 01/08/2015 21:55

Yes. Everyone knows Rex was a popular dog's name. Whereas now the most popular pet's names are interchangeable with the most popular kids names.

PressEscape · 01/08/2015 22:27

It's a try-hard chavvy name these days. Sorry for the honesty.

googietheegg · 01/08/2015 22:39

I love it! It was on our shortlist for week-old DS.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/08/2015 22:43

I think Rex is a great name.

Jenni2legs · 01/08/2015 22:53

Quasilulu · 02/08/2015 02:42
