Please could you give me your honest opinions on the name Rex for a boy! Thank you

Awful name.

Sounds like a dogs name.

I know of a couple. It actually works really well.

Isn't fearne cottons son called Rex? I Quite like it, but I'm not funky enough to get away with it (I have a henry, so other end of the spectrum!)

My first 2 associations are dogs and Oedipus.

But then one of mine is called Max which people say is a dogs name but it hasn't been a problem..

I don't like it for a little boy though and an adult Rex says leather trousers and chest hair to me.

Makes me think of dinosaurs and dogs.

Terrible. Perfect for a Staffordshire bull terrier though.

It's a dog's name. But I wouldn't call my dog it, because it's too cliché, like you couldn't be bothered to think of a name for the dog, so you just called it the first dog name you thought of, same for Fido.

Thank you for all the honest opinions...it was my husband's grandfather's name so there's a family connection but I'm unsure about it.

Stuff family connection, its a horrible name. Besides, surely most people have a family connection to almost all names if they looked hard enough..

How about as a middle name then, both mine have family names as middle names as do I. You can use it as a main name but then he has the option of a first name in the future?

I know a lovely little boy called Rex, however his mum tells this story....

In a gift shop, looking at all the tat souvenirs with names on, mum says to her DS 'we never find anything with your name on do we?'

Shop assistant says 'what's his name?'

Mum tells her it's Rex

Shop assistant says 'have you tried the pet shop?!'

I actually like it but the response seems to be fairly universal

I like it, think it's cute for a toddler but works for an adult too. It was my grandfather's name and was on our short list for DC2, who turns out to be a girl... Think you probably need a longer surname though, ours was too monosyllabic.

I like it-makes me think of the fabulous Rex Harrison from my fair lady.
His first name is Reginald-could that be a possibility op?With the nn Rex?

I like it. I know one who's father and grandfather also had the name, it's not so unusual.

It's wonderful. Seriously it's cool and strong without being too try hard and it's underused. Completely ignore those who say it is a dog's name . I have a daughter with a so called cat's name.. Fuck em it suits her to a tee.

I think it's ok as names go, but I think it's a tricky one to carry off.

I used to have a dog called Rex, in 1980. It isn't a fashionable dogs name just now. I think its a great name.

There are many people with dogs with "human" names, are those names no longer going to be taken seriously now then?

My DD is called Lucy, i know at least three dogs called lucy too. So what.
