I've seen this name and just curious really?
Would you pronounce it
Me-ah or My-ah?

Never seen it before, but I read as Mia (me-ah).

badtime · 28/07/2015 00:40

Like Mia.

reuset · 28/07/2015 00:44

Me-a

It looks Japanese, is my reasoning, though I may be wrong

Emochild · 28/07/2015 01:05

My-ah unless told otherwise but whenever I meet a Maya or Mia never seen miya before? I ask how they pronounce it as I've known girls pronounce both as Mee-ah, May-ah or My-ah

MamaLazarou · 28/07/2015 06:33

Mia? I don't like it.

Jk17 · 09/04/2023 14:03

I have named my daughter Miya and pronounce it as My-ah but that is because Iv heard it pronounced and spelt that way in the past. Everyone keeps calling my daughter me-ya and it’s getting to me.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 09/04/2023 14:21

My first instinct went with My-ah but I can see it also as me-ah. If you want My-ah I’d go with a spelling like Mya.

KirstenBlest · 09/04/2023 15:05

I'd think it was Mee-ya, but I'd wonder why you hadn't gone for Mia.

PickledScrump · 09/04/2023 18:02

I’ve never seen it before but I’d assume My-a.

COPPER3 · 09/04/2023 18:08

My- ah

Much prefer this to Mia..Me-ah

MortimerTheCat · 09/04/2023 21:54

Me ya

RuthW · 09/04/2023 21:59

My -ah

Saturnsmoon · 10/04/2023 00:56

I knew a Japanese Miya and that was ‘me-ah’ so same as Mia. I think it’s pretty. If you want My-ah surely you just go for Maya?

Enko · 10/04/2023 01:05

My-ah = Miya

Me ah = Mia

Imo

Interesting as the Japanese Miya I know says it like My ah. I wonder if there is variant in dialects. Will ask next time I speak with her sister (who is my friend only know sister through her)

Pemba · 10/04/2023 04:09

I have not seen that spelling before, but I would assume it was said the same as Mia (mee-uh).

Robinsflyhigh · 10/04/2023 11:10

I would assume it's pronounced "My-a" unless told different.

I've made this mistake so many times.

I called a Miya Mee-a and got snapped at - "It's MY-a"
I called a Maya MAY-a and got snapped at - "It's MY-a"
So, when I met a Miah, I thought right, this has to be "MY-a". Wrong again! - "It's MEE-a".

Now I just ask them how they pronounce it before even attempting it!

PurpleAirGuitar · 10/04/2023 23:34

I've known a little girl called Miya - it was MY-a in her case. She had a sister who also had a fairly common name spelt an unusual way.

user1492757084 · 11/04/2023 08:43

My instinct says Mee-uh.

VenusClapTrap · 11/04/2023 09:30

I know one who pronounces it My-a. It’s one of those names that’s fraught with mispronunciation and misspelling.

pomegranatelover · 11/04/2023 12:40

I would say mee-ya unless told different.

whatausername · 11/04/2023 21:08

In a very loud voice
