Caitlin or Freya

Trying to choose a name for our second DC, not sure if it's a boy or girl. We have chosen a name for a boy but can't decide between these two - Caitlin and Freya.

Options are:
Caitlin Elizabeth
Caitlin Serena

Or Freya Elizabeth

Any opinions? DC1 has a lovely but quite unusual name, so I am worried Freya in particular is too popular.

Particularly with Caitlin Jenner most likely increasing the names popularity (I already know a Caitlin and Kaitlyn) I would go with Freya, Freya Elizabeth is beautiful

NotReallyAPrincess · 26/07/2015 12:53

Both names are lovely but Freya just edges ahead with that middle name too.

If I ever have a DD Freya is one of my top choices too.

Girlwithnotattoos · 26/07/2015 12:55

Freya is lovely but very popular at the moment I know of 3 Freya's born in the last 2 years.

dobedobedo · 26/07/2015 12:58

I much prefer Caitlyn. I know of three dogs called Freya so that's the only reason why I don't like it!

GrizzlebertGrumbledink · 26/07/2015 13:05

I love Caitlin! Would be my choice if I had a daughter but would then have a Will and Kate... Maybe not.

MrsAukerman · 26/07/2015 13:07

Love Caitlin. Seems elegant. Freya seems a little chavvy nowadays.

MamaLazarou · 26/07/2015 14:01

I don't like either of them but of the two, would choose Freya as I really dislike the Anglicised pronunciation of Caitlyn.

Allalonenow · 26/07/2015 14:08

Freya Elizabeth is very lovely.

Caitlyn seems a bit old fashioned now to me.

sweetpeame · 26/07/2015 19:23

I don't much like either but Freya is preferable. Although in saying that I'm getting a little bored of hearing of little girls called Freya. They're popping up all over the place.

ButterDish · 26/07/2015 19:53

Freya. Caitlin is a terrible Americanised version of a name that is actually pronounced, roughly, Kathleen, or Kotychleen. It should clearly be spelled Kate-Lynne if used.

SophiesDog · 26/07/2015 19:57

I don't think I could bear to use Caitlyn after the recent publicity, so Freya would win for me.

Issie339 · 26/07/2015 20:09

I think Caitlin is lovely so that would be my choice. Freya is also lovely though.

barbecue · 26/07/2015 20:17

Caitlin Serena

Dreya · 26/07/2015 20:42

No contest. Freya. It's on my list too Smile

Bin85 · 26/07/2015 20:44

Freya is much better

cece · 26/07/2015 21:36

It depends on how you say Caitlyn

Kate-Lyn - not so much

Cat - Lyn - lovely

Freya - nice but popular if that sort of thing bothers you.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 26/07/2015 22:24

Both were on our long list for our DD but DH vetoed them in the end!
I like them though and if I had to chose I'd say Freya, just!

Sophronia · 26/07/2015 23:28

I'm not keen on either, but Freya is the better of the two.

Stingingthistle · 26/07/2015 23:31

I love Freya. I don't think it's all that popular and definitely not "chavvy" as someone said upthread. For me it doesn't have any particular class connotations.

Caitlin seems a bit dated American, though is ok. Freya is far nicer.

mytothername · 28/07/2015 07:43

Freya

Duchess007 · 29/07/2015 17:49

Thanks for all the opinions! Still finding it hard to decide. Sounds like Freya is slightly more popular than Caitlin. May check how popular Freya is on the 2014 baby names list once it comes out in August and see if it rules it in/out, given that it needs to sit well with DC1's quite unusual name.
Thanks again Thanks

I vote Caitlin. I'm biased though

Caldini22 · 02/08/2015 07:43

I like Caitlin, not a fan of Freya and there are lots of them where I live whereas Caitlin I think is a bit more unusual.
