What do you think of the name Jerry? For a boy.

Tom and... or Ben and .... ?

It's OK, but strikes me more as a nn than a stand-alone.

RoaryMouth · 23/07/2015 09:48

He'd need a sibling then!

Springer?

reuset · 23/07/2015 09:57

For Jeremy? Maybe. Not my cup of tea personally.

Though I know a female Gerry (short for nothing, just as it is) and I think it's more horrible for a girl.

Cynara · 23/07/2015 10:01

I love Jerry for a girl. Not a boy though. For some reason it makes me think of lumberjack shirts and full beards when applied to a man. No idea why. Obviously that's just me though, so I'll stop my stream of consciousness there. As you were.

RoaryMouth · 23/07/2015 10:16

Quite like the thought of a big, strapping lumberjack son!

No. It sounds like a name for a 50 year old builder rather than a baby or little boy (though of course your DS will be 50 one day and could be a builder). It's quite an ugly name IMO.

bridgetsmummy · 23/07/2015 10:24

I like it, have some in my family.
I would use Jeremiah on birth certificate though

Sophronia · 23/07/2015 11:23

Ok as a nn for Jeremy or Jeremiah

cantbelieveimonhere · 23/07/2015 11:29

Unless you want him bullied over his name, please don't

BothEndsBurning · 23/07/2015 11:44

It's fine, but only as a short form. Give him a proper name.

Jeremy
Jerome
Jeremiah
Gerald
Gerard

Spydra · 23/07/2015 13:32

Yes for a Jeremy - love it. No on it's own, too cutesy.

villainousbroodmare · 23/07/2015 13:37

I was on the Irish debating team with a very handsome Jerome.

RoaryMouth · 23/07/2015 16:15

Gerard is nice but I like Jerry rather than Gerry.

Seinfeld

RiverTam · 23/07/2015 16:42

Interesting one, I don't really know. Is Tom and Jerry a big thing these days? And surely all the Bens and Toms out there don't get teased?

I think I quite like it. Better than Gerry, which I can't bear personally.

Quasilulu · 24/07/2015 02:53

Baffled as to why he'd be teased. Love Jerome shortened to Jerry but doesn't go with our surname so please use it instead!

swimmerforlife · 24/07/2015 03:16

No, no, no. I love Jeremy though Grin

MamaMotherMummy · 24/07/2015 21:47

Love Jerry.

Jerome, Jethro (at a stretch), Jeremiah, even Gerald. ANYTHING but Jeremy.

YeOldeTrout · 24/07/2015 21:53

My uncle Gerald is a Jerry.

lunalovegood84 · 24/07/2015 22:17

I like Gerard and Gerry. Jerry seems too American.

PallasCat · 24/07/2015 23:14

Nice. I know an adult Jerry, short for Jeremy, which I also like.

SwedishEdith · 25/07/2015 00:03

Great name. Jerry definitely seems American but think I prefer the look of it.
