I can't decide if it's a fab name or not?! And what about middle names - I like alliterative names so something beginning with d.

It isn't to my taste.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/07/2015 16:40

I quite like it, it's one of the few surname-y names I like.

Middle name suggestions:
David
Drake
Declan
Drew
Davies
Dermont
Derwent
Dermot
Dylan
Douglas
Dougell
Denver

(bit of a mixed bag there!!)

I like Donovan Drew Smile

Icedfinger · 22/07/2015 16:46

I just think of Jason. Whether you think thats a good idea or not is up to you!

Rivercam · 22/07/2015 16:48

Cool!

I would probably use a more con entail middle name, or it could sound too "trying to hard to be different" if that makes sense.

Donovan Daniel / David / Darren / etc

IsadoraQuagmire · 22/07/2015 16:50

The scottish singer Donovan is cool. The TV show Ray Donovan is cool (mostly because Kate Moennig is in it!)
I used to know a guy named Donovan who was decidedly tacky however! Grin

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/07/2015 16:56

I think Noel Gallagher has a Donovan.

badg3r · 22/07/2015 17:09

I don't like it. "this is my son Donovan"... nope, sounds weird!

badg3r · 22/07/2015 17:09

also if you're not convinced yourself I'd steer clear!

ChrisQuean · 22/07/2015 17:33

"They call me Mellow Yellow!" I'd be humming that all day if I met a Donavon. Grin

Don't really like it

coolaschmoola · 22/07/2015 17:37

Not a fan... Solomon on the other hand is fabulous.

durhamgirl · 22/07/2015 17:41

Tacky :/

scrumpkin · 22/07/2015 17:58

Donovan Drake is a cool name!

sweetpeame · 22/07/2015 18:49

Hmmmm, it's tacky. Not a fan of surnames as first names, they're just too try hard.

PurpleDaisies · 22/07/2015 18:54

I'm not a fan but I have fairly conservative taste in names. It is a perfectly valid choice if you really love it.

BothEndsBurning · 22/07/2015 19:07

My first encounter with the name was the singer Donovan, so I don't regard it as a surname first. He's Donovan Leitch, I think, but just used the name Donovan. I don't dislike it at all.

Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind ..... Grin

reuset · 22/07/2015 20:13

Tacky (well you did ask Grin)

UrethraFranklin1 · 22/07/2015 20:15

you may as well try and catch the wind....Grin

DS was very nearly a Donovan but when he came out he just looked like he suited the other more traditional name that we had picked.

I really like it, but I remember the mid-wife pulling a face when I told her that was one of our two options. I wanted it because I wanted a little Don or Donnie, but not a Donald IYSWIM.

Quasilulu · 24/07/2015 02:56

My OH was desperate for it so he could call his son The Don. ???? What a saddo. Soon put a stop to that. Chatted with Donovan the singer once. It was enough to put me off the name for life.
