If i like Lara what else might I like?

I thought we were set on this for a girls name but doubts are creeping in.

I really dislike names like Olivia, Amelia all the popular names.

Husband likes names like Jessica which is just too bland for me. Though I love Jesse for a boy!

Any suggestions? Not Clara...

TIA!

Lovely name, was on our shortlist before we ended up having a baby boy.
Go for it!

carrietwick · 20/07/2015 12:14

We used that recently! ???? We also like Leila and Lyra which are similar.

crapfatbanana · 20/07/2015 12:30

Zara? Tamara? Zeta?

Alannah, Tabitha, Jenna, Laura, Ingrid, Astor, Meryl, Sorcha.

Dixiebell · 20/07/2015 13:27

Also like Lara, and Layla but have been considering Lyra for DD to be as a bit less popular. Other names on the list are Ada, Alexa, Stella, Eliza, Nora. And Cassia, but DH thinks it sounds made up!

I like Lana too but we already know of one so it feels a bit like copying.

Not keen on any of the rhyming names like Zara.

I think what is putting me off is that Lara sounds nice in my accent but not my in-laws. They elongate the first a so it's Laaaara.

Do you mean they pronounce it like Sarah instead of Sara? L-air-ah

Totally do Lara. It's cool, crisp, uncommon, feminine, kickass- if it wasn't my sisters name I'd use it myself. Americans, apparently they have trouble pronouncing it..??

I could have written your post!!

Here's our list. I like the more modern names and my DH likes the more classics names, hence the variety. I love Ada but my DH doesn't like 'granny names' as he calls them!

Lara is completely cool.

'Lara's theme' (from Dr Zhivago) is a wonderful piece of music.

PontyGirl · 20/07/2015 20:54

best name ever Grin

seriously, do it

BothEndsBurning · 20/07/2015 21:24

You could go for the full Russian Larissa.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/07/2015 10:07

I think it's a beautiful name, used it recently myself.

I liked Larissa which is what Lara is traditionally a diminutive of in Russia but it's very much a standalone name in the UK and figured I'd have the Devils own job getting people to call her Lara if we went with Larissa.

BothEndsBurning · 21/07/2015 12:13

Yes, but OP could possibly get the grandparents to call her Larissa. Just a thought! Smile

holidaysareoverated · 21/07/2015 14:39

Not at all keen on Larissa but this thread has reaffirmed that I do love the name Lara.
