Alivia sounds like a type of butter substitute.

Really don't like the name Emily.

Savanna..just, noooooo.

What about Amelie?

SquirrelledAway · 16/07/2015 09:36

The USA isn't that different from the UK - DS's class in a US pre school 15 years ago had some names I found unusual back then, but would be quite common in a UK pre school today.

fairyelephantswellies · 16/07/2015 09:38

Emily

Oh no OP. You've committed an MN sin of choosing a name "that is spelt wrong". God forbid we need another Emily (spelt correctly)

I quite like Alivia and nn Ally.

firesidechat · 16/07/2015 09:54

Gosh those are very different to each other.

Emily.

SquirrelledAway · 16/07/2015 10:11

sweetpeame · 16/07/2015 10:18

Alivia is ridiculous, Olivia would be nice. Savanna spelt any way is awful. So by default you should go with Emily.

kep1979 · 16/07/2015 10:19

Emily.... or Olivia, agree with the others about Alivia.

SkodaLabia · 16/07/2015 10:22

I'd go Savanna but pronounce it Sienna. Grin

Sorry, OP, none of your names are to my taste, but I agree with everyone else that Alivia will bring a lifetime of correcting people who think you are saying Olivia. Savanna will bring a lifetime of telling people there's no 'h' on the end.

Everyone knows where they are with Emily.

chocolatechip123 · 16/07/2015 10:23

I sat next to a (loud) couple in a restaurant who had a little Tiger, Phoenix and Peregrine at home...

SoupDragon · 16/07/2015 10:25

No, she's chosen a name that will dump a lifetime of "No, Alivia. Not Olivia. Yes, I know." onto her child.

Ahemily · 16/07/2015 10:25

I like Emily (totally unbiased, of course! Wink)

WhattodowithMum · 16/07/2015 10:27

Emily

penguinsaresmall · 16/07/2015 10:28

Emily is nice but a bit overused IMO.

Don't like the other two. Olivia is nice but also overused.

BifsWif · 16/07/2015 10:32

I don't like any, but if I had to pick one it would be Emily, as it's the best of a bad bunch.

What about Amelie as another poster suggested?

WhattodowithMum · 16/07/2015 10:52

I am someone with a "special name" one that my mum chose for me. All my life, when introduced to someone it's an issue. People think I am being precious- it wasn't my fault or choice. It's tiresome. I am an accomplished, intelligent person. I don't need the crutch of an "interesting" name as a talking point.

I totally understand not wanting an over used name. But based on my own life experience (and I am just one person, others may feel differently), I would go for a known, but less used name. How about something along the lines of Claudia, Antonia, Barbara, Sarah, Frances? They sound fusty to us but to your DD's generation they will sound different and a little vintage without being cute/wacky/tacky.

StonedGalah · 16/07/2015 11:38

Soup Well l have a very common name (3 in my class at school ) and still have to spell the fecking thing.

And only if she stays in the UK. Other countries are a bit less precious about names in my experience.

Only1scoop · 16/07/2015 11:39

Emily at a push

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/07/2015 11:41

Savanna or Emily

Absolutely not Alivia

Elllimam · 16/07/2015 12:12

Emily (or Amelie or Olivia)

StevieJo · 16/07/2015 12:23

Honestly I would pick Emily but why not take the 3 and see which one suits your little girl when she is born?

00100001 · 16/07/2015 16:12

Emily

Tattiesthroughthebree · 17/07/2015 07:29

I knew an Elivia and people thought she was saying "Olivia" in a posh accent. They didn't even ask her to spell it, they just wrote down Olivia.

I think Alivia would have the same problem.

milkandmarmite · 17/07/2015 07:35

Savannah if she can have the H, Emily if we can't persuade you on that!
