DH said it reminds him of ovary and I think he's ruined it for me now Angry

Bird cage... Or that bloke from Nashville.

HalfwayUpALadder · 09/07/2015 09:09

I love it. Wasn't there an avery in charlottes Webb?

Fugghetaboutit · 09/07/2015 09:10

Grin bird cage - true!

Sounds familiar Halfway

What about Aubrey?

OP posts:
HalfwayUpALadder · 09/07/2015 09:15

Aubrey sounds more like a girl's name to me.

Now about Nathaniel? Lawrence?

Hamsolo · 09/07/2015 09:17

I like it, but for a girl.

RiverTam · 09/07/2015 09:20

Aubrey is a boys' name that has been around for years. Prefer Avery to Aubrey but not really keen on either.

Fugghetaboutit · 09/07/2015 09:21

Aubrey sounds v masculine to me. Maybe Audrey for a girl :)

Avery labels.
Avery weighing scales.

pilates · 09/07/2015 09:51

No

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/07/2015 09:54

makes me think of Jackson avery.

doesn't work as a name I'm afraid. only as a surname

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 10:00

Aubrey is most definitely a male name. It's Norman French. I had an Uncle Aubrey, so am very familiar with the name. Unfortunately the poaching has begun, and it has been given to girls in recent years.

Audrey is Old English, definitely female, and has no connection with Aubrey.

Avery makes me think of weighing scales, but that's probably just me! I wouldn't know if an Avery was male or female.

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 10:01

paxtecum X post - not just me then! Grin

florascotia · 09/07/2015 10:11

As previous posters say, Aubrey is definitely a man's name, whatever current (mostly US) fashions. An older English version of Aubrey was Auberon/Oberon.

I think that people might easily mishear 'Avery' as 'every'.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 09/07/2015 10:14

Scales. Don't do it!

BeautifulBatman · 09/07/2015 10:15

Bird cage or the bloke out of Nashville. Not great.

FraggleHair · 09/07/2015 11:33

Reminds me of Avery labels, but only because I spent a good thirty minutes yesterday swearing at the printer when trying to do a mail merge.

TempsPerdu · 09/07/2015 11:40

Just makes me think of birds (caged ones, so not a nice association!). Doesn't feel like a name at all to me, but if anything it seems a bit feminine. Don't like Aubrey either.

barbecue · 09/07/2015 13:52

Stationery brand.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 09/07/2015 14:34

I like it but would assume it was a girl.

GinUpGirl · 09/07/2015 14:49

I dislike it and think birds too, and would definitely think Avery was a girl. Very American too, which I dislike.

Although this search brings up more male Averys.

sweetpeame · 09/07/2015 15:11

Don't like it. Reminds me also of birds and also sounds like something an American girl would be called (not good either IMO).

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 15:12

I've only just 'got' the bird reference. Aviary. It didn't occur to me at all!

RiverTam · 09/07/2015 16:54

yep, me too.

mrssmith79 · 09/07/2015 17:01

The only Avery I know of is a female character in 30 Rock, Avery Jessup.
