Cai is welsh and pronounced Kai (dont want K spelling) means happy
Finn is Irish

He will have irish roots, be born in wales and live in england then poss overseas.

Finn is more popular.
Both are sweet.
I think I have seen the meaning of Kai as "warrior"
I like cai.

DramaAlpaca · 08/07/2015 23:48

I like Finn best.

Sophronia · 08/07/2015 23:53

Finn

BualadhBos · 08/07/2015 23:58

Finn is lovely.

pregnantpause · 08/07/2015 23:58

I'm welsh. I have always lived in Wales. Finn is better simply because every cai I've met ( both in my generation(3 in my school) and my dc ( 1 in each of my dc class)- is a thugConfused

I like the sound of cai, but prefer Finn for the above reason

casey101 · 09/07/2015 00:11

thank you everyone so far and pregnantpause that is really helpful/ interesting thank you. I knew the Kai spelling had some of those connotations in England but didnt realise that was the same for Cai in Wales..

I know it is snobbish, but I just can't get past the fact that Wayne Rooney's kid us called Cai/Kai.

Finn is lovely.

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 08:19

Is it pronounced Kye or Kay?

casey101 · 09/07/2015 09:02

Bothends...it's pronounced Kye. BadHenry I know what you mean Daniella Westbrooks son is called Kai too. But then again if I live overseas no one would have that connotation? thank you btw

I personally don't like Cai, Finn is marginally better.

BothEndsBurning · 09/07/2015 09:27

In that case I greatly prefer Guy. But I have no Welsh connections.

Heels99 · 09/07/2015 09:28

Finn. Can is horrible.

RiverTam · 09/07/2015 09:29

Finn. Same feeling about Cai as others, sorry.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/07/2015 09:29

Definitely Finn.

barbecue · 09/07/2015 09:33

Cai by a long way.

reuset · 09/07/2015 09:41

Finn

pilates · 09/07/2015 09:50

Finn, Cai is awful sorry.

florascotia · 09/07/2015 10:15

Finnis nicer.

I also like compund names including 'Fin', such as Fintan, Finbar, Fingal.

florascotia · 09/07/2015 10:16

'compund' should be 'compound', obvs. Sorry.

Christelle2207 · 09/07/2015 10:27

I'm welsh. Liked Cai but discounted it due to similarity to Kai and connotations associated with it!

FraggleHair · 09/07/2015 11:31

Wayne Rooney puts me off Cai.

I like the name Finn.

TempsPerdu · 09/07/2015 11:38

Finn's much nicer than Cai imo.

casey101 · 10/07/2015 10:42

Thanks everyone :)

Finn - DS is a Finn and it suits him. After everything we'd been through the meaning of fair warrior was perfect too.
