What are opinions on Octavia, for a girl, please. Good name or bad name? Also, I'd thought it was obvious, but how would you pronounce it.

WellErrr · 07/07/2015 11:17

I like it.
Oc-tay-vee-a.

strawberryshoes · 07/07/2015 11:20

my car is a skoda octavia

I say oct-tar-vee-a
some say oct-tay-vee-a

midnightvelvetPart2 · 07/07/2015 11:28

I'm ambivalent, I'd pronounce it Oc tay vee a possibly Oc tarr via

To me it means a measurement of 8ths derived from octave, a car, there's an Octavia in Shakespeare (Anthony & Cleopatra possibly?) & its a character in The 100, & a character in a Jilly Cooper book when I was younger.

No good or bad associations with the name from me...

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 07/07/2015 11:50

8th child?

TheJiminyConjecture · 07/07/2015 11:55

Had sex with her brother.

I'd pronounce it Oc-tay-vee-ya

UpNorth74 · 07/07/2015 12:05

Id say oc-tay-vee-ah.
Beautiful alternative is Oceana, there are probably other spellings, pronounced oh-shee-ah-na.

Sidge · 07/07/2015 12:13

I love it. I wanted to call DD3 Octavia but was vetoed Sad

I pronounce it Oct-ay-veeya

sallyst123 · 07/07/2015 12:15

Love it!
I'd pronounce it oc tay vee ah

Tattiesthroughthebree · 07/07/2015 12:20

Oct-tay-vee-ah

If I met an Octavia I might wonder if she was an eighth child.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 07/07/2015 12:24

Amazing name. Love it, love it, love it!! I had a children's book called 'The Moon's Revenge' by Joan Aiken when I was little and it has a character called Octavia - I've loved the name ever since!

Turtlefeet · 07/07/2015 12:26

DS has a friends called Oc-tay-vee-ya. She is called Otty for short.

I think it is a lovely names.

slidley · 07/07/2015 12:28

No, not an eighth child! Not even close Grin

Good name

Oc tay - vee a usual English pronunciation

Also Oct tar vee a

MamaLazarou · 07/07/2015 18:48

It's a lovely name, a bit ostentatious but you might not mind that. I would pronounce it Oc TAY veea.

CakeOClock123 · 07/07/2015 18:50

No it's a bloody car.

BleachEverything · 07/07/2015 18:54

Octayvia is how I would say it. I love it.

sweetpeame · 07/07/2015 22:11

I'd say Oc-tay-vee-a. It sounds incredibly pretentious IMO but that may not bother you!

WorktoLive · 08/07/2015 07:08

As long as you're happy with a lot of 'what, like the car?' comments, it's fine.

I know it's a real name and there was one in Shakespeare.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 08/07/2015 10:16

I'm sure you will get comments about cars the way some say Lotus! when a girl's called Elise but I like it, I'd say OcTAYvia.

slidley · 08/07/2015 10:25

It was a classical Roman name, then used by Shakespeare, long before a Skoda car was named. So if the car is a person's main/only point of reference than that doesn't bother me

Octay-vee ah

LOVE the name....might just use it myself!!

CardinalRed · 08/07/2015 13:11

Oc-tay-vee-a

There is no "r" in Octavia!

I thought of the Jilly Cooper book too.

Sansarya · 08/07/2015 13:11

It's my mother's middle name and she's always hated it. No idea why, as I think it's very stately.

Sansarya · 08/07/2015 13:12

It was my gran's middle name too as she was an eighth child.

waxweasel · 08/07/2015 18:05

I know one - she's about 18-24 months. She's Oc-tay-vee-a but was introduced to me as NN Tavi (pron Tah-vee) which I thought was cute.
