Rupert - honest opinions, please!

I really like the name Rupert, but my hubby thinks it sounds a bit 'overheard in Waitrose'! I can see his point, but I also think it's a good traditional name that will work well with his older sister's name (Martha) and sounds good on a boy and a man. However, I'd hate to think it would lead to bullying in the playground.

What do people honestly think? Thank you!!!

The world's not ready for it yet.

nipplequestion · 03/07/2015 20:59

I'm sorry to say that it sounds like one of the 'poshest' of boys names to me. That and Barnaby and Tarquin.
It is also very connected to 'the bear' in my head.
Having said that, children of this generation won't have those connections, so I wouldn't say it would be a name that would necessarily lead to bullying!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/07/2015 21:00

I love it.

quesadillas · 03/07/2015 21:00

I like it. Alas husband hates it.

ShadowFire · 03/07/2015 21:05

I think it sounds a bit wet.

And there used to be a Rupert Bear cartoon on Milkshake (channel 5) early in the morning a year or 2 ago. Not sure if they still show it, but I wouldn't count on today's children having never heard of Rupert Bear.

Magicalmrmistofeles · 03/07/2015 21:06

I love it. Husband would think bear.

DressingGownFrown · 03/07/2015 21:08

Love love love it. Favourite name, I called my dog it (hope that doesn't put you off) and I've now realised its really stupid because the dog will die and the name have been 'used' Envy

OhHolyFuck · 03/07/2015 21:10

I really like it too, sweet enough for a baby and toddler but still serious enough for a grown up

Yika · 03/07/2015 21:12

Very posh and wet. I still like it - we had a much loved cat called Rupert. But I wouldn't call my child it.

alicemalice · 03/07/2015 21:12

Awful, sorry.

KittyBennett · 03/07/2015 21:12

Love it. Goes really well with Martha

Y0la · 03/07/2015 21:12

No. I'm quite adventurous with names but it sounds like a parody. It's so self-consciously upper middle class.

humlebee7 · 03/07/2015 21:17

Says Jilly Cooper randy anti-hero to me. I like it but called the rabbit it instead of child.

Stoppissingonthefloor · 03/07/2015 21:25

Dd's best friend is called Rupert. He is a lovely child and she affectionately calls him Roo. I think it's a great name

Magicalmrmistofeles · 03/07/2015 21:25

See, I love Roo!

grabaspoon · 03/07/2015 21:26

I know a Rupert (aged 3)

Not a fan

MamaLazarou · 03/07/2015 21:49

A very silly name.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 03/07/2015 21:52

Posh, bit thick and probably an estate agent. Sorry

scrivette · 03/07/2015 21:56

Love it even though it makes me think of bear.

Petal7 · 03/07/2015 22:00

Love it

MyPelvicFloorTrainsItself · 03/07/2015 22:01

Love it

Fatstacks · 03/07/2015 22:02

Rupert is also squaddie slang for officer.
Meaning posh, dim, over educated toff.

nooyearnooname · 03/07/2015 22:03

I like it. I know an adult Rupert and he is really lovely, it suits him.

Sansfards · 03/07/2015 22:04

the bear

neolara · 03/07/2015 22:06

Awful. Sorry.
